Q: Anyone use a python code for this?

I don't but it may be worthwhile pointing out that this device is matrix. Meaning, 1 is shorting out row 1 column 1 pin and 2 is shorting out row 1 and column 2. So your coding is a matter of registering pins being shorted out.

Q: Is it possible to arrange the format of the buttons? (ie use numpad arrangement instead)

The buttons, best I can tell, aren't removable, so you can't swap them around like, for example, keys on a desktop computer keyboard.
