Small seeds. Strong, healthy, plants.
Iโll be honest, I struggled a wee bit to begin with to get these very small seeds to germinate. I should have done a bit of reading first, because, when I finally did, I discovered the seeds need light to germinate. The best method I found was to put a few on a damp piece of paper kitchen towel inside a clear zip-lock food bag and keep on a bright, sunny window sill (make sure they donโt dry out mind!). It took about two weeks for them to germinate. From there, I transferred them into potting compost in small containers and grew them on, potting up, as needed. Once established, they absolutely shoot away. I am currently growing plants both out doors in a sunny spot, in good, well drained soil, and also in large pots in a sunny porch, just to compare which do best in the different conditions. I feed both weekly, with a liquid tomato feed, which they seem to appreciate.I was also able to grow them by sowing directly onto damp potting compost, with a slightly lower success rate for germination than the zip-lock bag method. The plants are really healthy and once established, grow at a terrific rate, though I noticed that the large leaves are quite easily damaged. You get 250 seeds, so plenty to play with and I have found that the plants (and seeds) also make for nice โswapsโ with fellow gardeners.Fun to grow too! Each plant also provides an absolute bumper crop of seeds, which are viable, so you should never need to buy seeds again!Recommended. The first photos shows the seedlings emerging (directly sowed in compost method) about 2-3 weeks after sowing. The second photo shows the same plants two weeks later. The third photo shows the plants a further two weeks on, after planting up.The fourth and fifth photos are a further two weeks later (about six weeks after germination), where the plants are really shooting away. The second to last l photo shows the difference between two plants, in which the seeds were sown about one month apart, just to give a sense of how much they push on, once established.Last photo; mature plant with most flowers out. (I pruned this one to keep it under control, as I was growing it inside. I think unhindered, they can probably grow much larger than this)
