This arrived wrapped in a bag and I had spaced that I ordered it, so I was curious just what was so heavy in my mail. I filed away at an end and the brass color is uniform throughout, responds to Brass Black appropriately, and leaves that handful-of-pennies smell on your fingers so it seems to legitimately be brass. I'm pretty certain it's not lead-free brass (description confirmed 3% lead), so I wouldn't use it with cooking utensils or handle it for long periods of time. But casual handling should be fine.

I don't have tools to test the exact metal I received but it seems to be exactly as described. The dimensions are as advertised and I plan to use it for some future knifemaking projects.
