The entire influential Japanese anime series, containing all 26 episodes. Set in the year 2015, the human race has retreated into vast underground cities after the invasion of the dreaded 'Angels', a race of alien creatures. Earth responds by forming the NERV agency, which creates the Evangelions - giant biomechanical weapons that can only be piloted by children. 14 year old Shinji Ikari (Megumi Ogata) is summoned against his will by his father to Neo-Tokyo 3 to take up the controls of one of the Evangelion weapons and lead the fight against the Angels. But Shinji begins to question why his father has really contacted him after so many years apart, and why the Angels are really attacking Earth. Episodes are: 'The Beast'; 'A Transfer'; 'Hedgehog's Dilemma'; 'Rei I'; 'Rei II'; 'A Human Work'; 'Asuka Strikes!'; 'Both of You, Dance Like You Want to Win!'; 'Magma Diver'; 'The Day Tokyo-3 Stood Still'; 'She Said 'Don't Make Others Suffer For Your Personal Hatred''; 'Liliputian Hitcher'; 'Weaving a Story'; 'Those Women Longed for the Touch of Others' Lips and Thus Invited Their Kisses'; 'Splitting of the Breast'; 'Fourth Children'; 'Ambivalence'; 'Introjection'; 'Weaving a Story II: Oral Stage'; 'He Was Aware That He Was Still a Child'; 'Don't Be'; 'Rei III'; 'The Beginning and the End'; 'Do You Love Me?' and 'Take Care of Yourself'.

Screw the rebuilds
The ultimate anime in my opinion. It tells of the young and flaky Shinji Ikari, who was abandoned by his father while he went to work on giant robots. Years later, he's called back to pilot one and fight giant monsters. Simple, yet there are some many other entities that come together in this show it becomes much more than a mecha anime. Psychoanalysis plays a major role, particularyl in Shinji and Asuka. The animation is a bit junky at the start, due to alleged budget cuts and script changes. The mood of the show changes for the better around episode 16. Things get so much darker as each character in the show begins to crack under the pressure of the seeming inevitable apocalypse. If you're thinking the rebuilds might replace this violent and nihilistic epic, don't. The rebuilds so far consist of: 1) A lot of loudspeaker announcements 2) the fruitless search for Mari's point and 3) Shinji and Kowaru searching for something to do (now with 45% more sexual tension). They may have more eye candy with the addition of CGI but the movies have lost the original impact. This box set contains the 8 discs of the original series, with English dubbing and Japanese with English subtitles. The sub may be cringe-worthy at times, but it does the best it can with the exaggerated cartoon look of the first few episodes. I do recommend this also for the original episodes 25 and 26, with the End of Evangelion this is complete. I think you need to see both to form your own full ending as one couldn't have existed without the other. No matter what the allegations on how it was made, the end result is still a must see. Plus the box itself is so nice to look at.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The PERFECT collection
Well what can I say, It's what it says on the tin!PERFECT, By far a must see for any REAL anime fan.If you have seen the remake movies and enjoyed them then this is also a must! The first remake movie 1:11 follows the first 5-6 episodes of the original with slight changes, It then starts to change the story in the second remake movie 2:22, so if you have both this set and the remakes you are getting 2 different stories!5 out of 5

The best anime ever!
First, lets get things straight. This, in my opinion, is the best anime ever! You may have seen anime's such as Naruto, Bleach, Trigun and many more, but none can compare to the intense story line of Evangelion. The whole show can get quite complex and physiological but even I can grasp what's going on at the age of 14. The fight scenes can get quite graphical and intense whereas in other scenes you can feel the emotion of the character. Now that you have the basic idea of what it's like i will tell you some shocking information. I myself do not own this box set. Yet thanks to my dear friend I have seen all the episodes within 3 evenings after school. This is because once you start watching you can't stop! I enjoyed it so much I have decided to purchase this box set very soon. After searching the internet for about 2 weeks now I have come across lots of sites selling lots of different Evangelion packages. This is the cheapest! Even if you bought the episodes singularly you would not get such an amazing price. If you happen to find somewhere cheaper please notify me as soon as possible but make sure there are no catches such as a signing up fee to the site which sells it. This is a great oppitunity to get all 26 episodes for a fantastic price so don't miss out! I also recommend that if you purchase this you also purchase the movie 'End Of Evangelion' as this ties in with the ending of the series. So what are you waiting for? Get it now!!!

A mess
After all the hype I was perhaps expecting too much. This is labored, deliberately vague and full of plots holes and directions that go nowhere. A lot of predictable moments, obvious "twists"and the ghastly characters are simply dull and shrill. So full of manufactured angst it becomes tiresome by the third episode. Pretentious without any defined intellectual weight or perception. Maybe if you are fourteen this nonsense allows you to write your on plot and agenda but for everyone else it is silly in the extreme. What a disappointing waste of viewing time.

A brilliant anime
Lke I said, brilliant. The plot is excellent and develops really well, the characters (while Ikari Shinji doesn't change as much as I'd like) are deep and emotional. You see love shrivel at the loss of the mother. Watch competition drive a character towards loneliness and solitude. See with your own eyes giant robots beating up giant evil monsters :)Towards the last episodes the themes got unbelievably psychological, causing any reader to think heavily about certain aspects of life. The episodes are of decent length (err...just in case anyone'd like to know <__<).

Cruel Angel's Thesis
This is one of animes true classics, a series that will still be as popular decades from now. Combining action, story, music and characters in a fantastic display, featuring an incredinly deep story with roots in religious tales. It's the kind of series you can watch over and over, and always find something new, or realise another level to the story you never noticed before. Many complained at the series' ending, and so a movie was made to go along side it, entitled End of Evangelion. These are not 2 contradictory endings, just 2 different ways of viewing the same thing (without giving too much away, one is from the POV of inside the casts minds, whilst the other is whats going on outside). Buy this set, its alot cheaper than to buy the volumes individually and you really won't regret it.

I would've given it higher but 5 is the top. ;)
This is, in my opinion, the GREATEST ANIME EVER! This combines an incredible plot with amazing, multi-layered characters, incredible fight scenes and a mature setting to create a compelling anime that takes you through the ups and downs of each characters development. For example, you see Shinji Ikari grow into a more mature young man and you see Rei Ayanami open herself more to others. The fight scenes in Neon Genesis Evangelion can have your heart racing and the twists and turns of the story will keep you guessing. If you were to buy this, you would not regret it. So buy it. Now.
