Makes a nice waffle
Makes a nice waffle on our gas stove. Hangs from a hook on a kitchen shelf when not in use. Takes up very little space and looks good, too.

Sticks despite seasoning
Went through the seasoning process twice, really wanted this to work because don’t want to use nonstick chemical electric irons, but just couldn’t get it to work, made a mess and had to scrape stuck on waffle batter, someone more patient maybe could get it to work

Season and be rewarded
Bought this is replace my cast aluminum one that never heated evenly, took forever to finish a waffle and at least once always destroyed a waffle. You do need to season it first. I wiped it with a thin grapeseed oil layer put it in the oven at 450 for an hour flipped it over and did another hour. Made waffles the next day and as you can see they came off the pan beautifully. It’s a little smaller than my old one but it’s still plenty of waffle and frozen leftovers fit well in a toaster. The reviews said the hinge is a problem and I can see why. It is not a fixed hinge so you do have to be a little careful opening the pan or the hinge catches which I feel is normal for this type of hinge. I’m a big fan of cast iron and this maker is a great example of why. It heats quickly and evenly. Clean up is very easy just dab out excess butter if you use it and you’re done. I’m hopeful the pan will last and I’m still avoiding all the toxic non stick coatings of the electric ones.

Exactly As advertised
I bought this because I wanted waffle iron that is easy to clean (no attached electronics) and easy to store. This is not large - easily fits on top of my cast iron skillet on the shelf. I like that it comes apart - so if I need to, I can soak it and re-season it. Obviously - it takes some getting used to cooking waffles the old fashioned way - you can use the stove top or the oven to cook in. I fully recommend this product.

Good quality cast iron.
Good design and a well made product. Like all cast iron, you MUST season it before use. Don't skip this step or your batter will stick!

Could use a bit more instruction.
I think that this Professional 8-inch, Cast Iron Stove Top Waffle Maker could use some more instructions.I wish that the seasoning instructions included the temperature that the oven should be set to. The instructions say to use a moderate oven. I set my oven to 350 degrees. I think that was too hot. During the one hour period of seasoning time my kitchen ended up smelling of burning olive and avocado oil.I wish that this waffle maker included some waffle and "chaffle" recipes. I am gluten free so I don't eat wheat, I cook "chaffles" made of egg, almond flour, baking soda and cheese instead.Because there were no included instructions I was not sure how long I should cook my "chaffles" on the stove top using this waffle maker.I felt that this waffle maker needed to be flipped so that my "chaffle" got cooked on both sides. Because there were no instructions I wasn't sure how long I should wait before I flipped it.My "chaffle" stuck to both sides of this waffle maker. The instructions do say to spray the waffle maker with oil the first few times that it is used, which I did not do. For "chaffle" making I usually sprinkle some shredded cheese onto the hot waffle maker to prevent sticking so I did that instead. My "chaffle" probably also stuck to both sides of the waffle maker because I did not add enough "chaffle" batter. I did not want the batter overflowing onto my glass cooktop.Even though my "chaffle" making has been a bit less than successful thus far, I am happy to own this cast iron waffle maker. I want to eventually rid my kitchen of all nonstick cookware.I ordered this Professional 8-inch, Cast Iron Stove Top Waffle Maker because I want to use it to replace my electric nonstick waffle maker.Four stars.
