Easy set up, very flexible configuration, great for my well heat lamp
I needed to put a ceramic heat lamp in my well to keep it from freezing when the temps dropped into teens and single digits. The simplest solution to provide power to that lamp during the few months of the year when it's needed was to run a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord from a GFI outlet on my covered porch to the lamp. The thing is, it only needed to run during the night--temps got up enough during the day that it didn't have to be on.The TP-Link Tapo P400 was the perfect match for what I needed. The Tapo plug is very sturdy, very well-built with good covers over the outlets. It's IP65 rated, so it's good for outdoor use--but you don't want to leave it fully out in the rain on or the ground. It has 2 outlets, each of which has its own manual on/off switch and each of which can be configured using the Tapo app (more on that below). It's also capable of handling a nice load -- 1800W / 15A / 1/2hp motor.Setup using TP-Link's Tapo app was quick and simple. Just install the Tapo app, plug in the outlet, and follow the prompts. You can set up a schedule with multiple turn on/off events at specific times on specific days--I can see how that can be useful for a variety of situations. The fact that the plug has 2 outlets which can be scheduled independently makes that even more useful. One thing that's especially nice for my specific situation is that you can set on/off events based on the sunset and sunrise. For example, if I know it won't be cold enough to need the lamp until at least an hour after sunset, I can tell it to turn on an hour after sunset...and the Tapo app will use my location to adjust the time accordingly. Same for sunrise. You can tune that to a very fine degree--a number of hours and minutes before or after either sunrise or sunset. That would also be a great thing to have if you wanted to turn lights on and off. Another thing that's useful is that I can connect the unit to the TP-Link remote server so that I can turn the outlets on and off when I'm away from home.I'm very pleased with this, exactly what I needed!

Ideal product for turning On and Off newly added water feature.
Bought a water feature that did not have a remote or a manual on and off button. Purchased Tapo outdoor smart outlet in order to wirelessly turn on and off the water feature through Alexa. Set up was easy and straightforward. We can use the phone app to turn on and off the water feature or now we have it connected to Amazon Alexa our home WI-FI so it will also activate through voice command. For a 70 something, it was an easy set up.

Easy and effective.
We use this to control our porch fans and our bug zapper, and while you can use the Tapo software you can also set them up as Matter-based outlets via Home Assistant. Could not be simpler to configure: open the Home Assistant app on your phone, go to the Matter integration, add device, scan the QR code and it's on your network. The unit seems sturdy and should hold up to our Southern humidity for a while. Great signal quality, too!

Liked it, wish the cable was longer.
The minus star more has to do with the app itself. It gets a little annoying trying to set up the scheduled time since it just doesn't feel intuitive.Other than that the timer works, it's not a big device so I barely notice it outside. I do wish there was a longer cable one as it could be tucked away a bit better at my house. It was easy to turn on and off from my phone and made turning on and off my christmas directions without being a pain.

Makes life easy
Perfect for the patio to run my bug zapper. I don’t even have to set the time. It runs automatically from sun down to sun up. The other plug runs my fairy lights and it’s easily changed when daylight savings changes. Nice product!

Works as expected. Matter integration works fine.
Works just like a matter certified device should work. You DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL THE TAPO APP if using it with Google Home or Homekit.

TP-Link Service and Warranties are Horrible!!!
This item worked fine for about 10 months, then it would not power up at all. I contacted TP-Link about the issue, got an AI response, went through all the troubleshooting steps (I am a techie) but the unit was unresponsive. I continued to get the same requests from TP-Link, send pictures, receipts (which I did) and they continued to ask for the same items 4X. I gave up - the service and warranty are worthless. I would NOT recommend TP-Link!!!!!!!
