COSTWAY LARGE (3 in 1) TOOL CABINET - shocking build quality
COSTWAY LARGE (3 in 1) TOOL CABINETI have needed to organise the tools in my garage for ages so I ordered the Costway Large Tool Cabinet to arrive in the week determined to spend a large part of the following Saturday doing that.I put the cabinet together this morning. It has been delivered to my house so because it was heavy I had to unpack it there and carry the parts in instalments to my garage at the back.My first comment is an observation, the rest I’m afraid will be criticisms. You get a variety of screws, nuts and bolts, some rather similar in size. Although they are listed in the accompanying manual, they are not pictured so you have to go onto the online video to view them. Since they all come in the same plastic bag it might be handy to have them in separate bags because it is very easy to mix them up.The base unit of the unit was fairly easy to assemble, you just needed to attach the casters, the handle and the side panel to cover the whole where the top unit was transported. However, I was not impressed by the middle compartment which comprised two side panels bolted to the base unit, and a back plate which bolted to the side panels and in goes the sliding front door. This middle compartment is very flimsy, there is nothing linking the two sides at the front top except the loose door when so sort of brace between the top front corners of the side panels would have made is more substantial (see Photo 1).In the About this item blurb on Amazon is says:•【Robust Metal Structure】 “super sturdy“I beg to differ; the middle section is not sturdy at all.It also says:• 【3-in-1 Tool Chest】 This rolling tool box organizer consists of 3 pieces, which can be flexibly combined as you need. And you can detach the upper chest and put it into the bottom cabinet for saving space.I would question why you would buy this unit and then store the top compartment in the base unit, thereby not being able to store anything else. The idea that you can remove the top section and use it separately is also a joke, if you do that the middle compartment has to top (see Photo 1) and as I’ve already mentioned, is flimsy, it needs the top section the top compartment to give it any sort of rigidity. Now I come to the top compartment. It is already assembled so all you need to do it attach it to the middle compartment using the four screws provided. There are actually six screw holes (see Photo 2) that could have been utilised but only four of these have brass threaded tapping screw fittings, so only four can be used.Attaching the two compartments should be easy.It isn’t, it is fiddley and very awkward, I could not get my drill into the middle compartment in line with the screw holes so I had to do it by hand with a screw driver, but the most annoying aspect to this was the shockingly poor build quality of the holes with the tapping threaded brass fittings (see Photos 3+4). They were buckled and protruded at an angle so the screws had to go in at an angle and there was a permanent gap between the top and middle compartments (see Photo 5). I think this is some of the worst build quality I have seen in a self-assemble unit of any kind.So what else was wrong. The drawers are provided with blue-black ant-slip sheets but one of mine was crumbled and torn from being transported with other fitments (see Photo 6).Surely that is it!Nope, the top and bottom locks and the keys provided. See Photo 7, the top lock is number 606, the bottom lock is 601, but both keys are 606. I am assuming somewhere long the line the units have been swopped and since the keys come inside the top compartment I would not mind betting its build quality has led to it being returned, only to be sold again to me.

Decent but not amazing
You can tell it is a cheaper tool box, perfect for entry level mechanics etc, decent amount of space but not very strong, accidentally brought a ramp down on it and the entire tool chest crumbled, however this was rectified for the most part with a hammer, the draws on the base piece don’t lock either, i’m not sure if this is a design flaw or just a defect but the rest works as it’s supposed to.

Its…. Ok….
It’s ok…. A bit small…. All a bit flimsy to be honest. I doubt it will last but it was relatively cheap. I should have bitten the bullet and bought a proper one. Buy cheap buy twice as they say.

Damaged and poor instructions
I appreciate this tool trolley is very reasonably priced, but, didn’t expect it to have 6 dents in. Was well packaged, however, that clearly didn’t make any difference. Only noticed once halfway through building. Also, instructions are very poor and doesn’t show you where some of the screws go. For what I received, should have been half the price! Be very careful, maybe pay a little more for better quality!!

A place for everything.
Finally, at 66 years old, I've managed to organize my tools. Funny thing is, I don't use them as much now lol.
