i dabble lightly in ceramics, and there were multiple wheels i thought about purchasing. i decided on this wheel because of the price, compact size, and the reviews. the wheel itself is very good at what’s its meant to do, except for when pressure is applied to the wheel which causes it to slow down but that’s not a major problem because there shouldn’t be a lot of pressure applied when throwing. the tools that it came with are cheap and would probably break after little usage so i’d suggest going to a craft store and getting wooden tools (i already had them), and the clay it came with i only used once and it was difficult to use on the wheel compared to the wild clay i use. for a beginner i think this is a perfect wheel to get used to applying light pressure and letting the clay move rather than moving the clay before upgrading to a bigger wheel. i do recommend this wheel (images are of finished pieces made with this wheel)

This pottery wheel turns very slow and does not help to mould the clay. Plus the machine failed within an hour of use. Please do not buy as it is an inferior product with practically no use. I was hoping to spend my wife's birthday doing clay modeling and this machine was a let down.

My teen is just getting into pottery and this is the perfect entry level wheel that holds up well

It was super fun to use. Loud. It was difficult. Unfortunately mine broke within three uses. The wheel stop turning. I was very careful to not press hard on the machine as well. Definitely pass this one up and get a little more expensive one. Very difficult to use for children as well I would imagine as it is very small and moves around a lot.

I bought this as an inexpensive variable speed turn table for a project I am working on. Turntable is working well for that. But I wish I would have gotten this pottery kit when I was a child. It is well made and comes with tools, paint, clay, sculpting tools, etc. very nice. I would have been over the moon with this.

I selected this pottery wheel for my 12-year-old niece as she loves to craft. It is a nice, compact wheel that doesn't take up too much space and is perfect for smaller pottery crafts such as little bowls and dishes. The wheels comes with some basic tools, paints and a couple of blocks of clay so you can play with it immediately if you want. We have had to purchase some more clay and to replace a few of the tools, but I love that you can give this pottery wheel as a gift and they can start using it right away.The wheel is sensitive to pressure and will stop moving if you push down on it. Whether you are pushing on the wheel through the clay or directly on the wheel, it will stop. I choose to look at this as a safety feature to prevent kids or beginner adults from hurting themselves, but it can be a little frustrating as it stops your flow and creativity. Once you figure out the way to press the clay horizontally instead of vertically, the wheel spins just fine.This small pottery wheel is a great gift for Christmas or birthdays. It is perfect for kids, especially young kids. For teens and adults who are beginners, it may not be the best choice as they push down harder on the clay.

This is at very best an intro to clay for kids, but even then, unless its the absolute softest clay ever, its not going to work. It is so under powered that my 9 year old stopped it every time they tried to do anything. I would pass on this personally.
