Other thickeners are better.
I've been using glucomamnan powder mostly to thicken hot chocolate and smoothies. It works well but can be unpleasantly slimy if you use too much. I have been looking for something better and thought I'd try zanthan gum. I liked this shaker container and the price compared to other brands.The pros: It doesn't affect flavor at all. The container is nice except that the top is hard to turn.The cons: It's made in China. It doesn't work at all for acidic foods like fruit! (I tried it with cooked apple slices, and ended up adding the usual amount of corn starch.) It doesn't thicken hot chocolate very much - the granules expand but don't blend in with stirring alone, so using a blender would be necessary.I'll try it in homemade ice cream this summer, but I won't buy it again.

Shaker's a little unusual, but he powder works well for my needs
