Check item for defective ends.
ALERT!!!!!!! Make sure you check if you could unscrew both ends before use. We got one that was impossible to open. We were unable to use one. I was told by the seller that Amazon packages these and therefore the problem is with them. I unfortunately, used one day and on the second day is when I found out the second one was not working properly. Once you use them, you are unable to return item. I gave this item a 3 due to the fact of pricing and not being able to return defective item. The item itself is solid, large composting capacity, assembly is okay as long as the ends are aligned on the thread.

Practical supplement for non irrigated, smaller gardens
These in ground composters are good for reducing watering and can also supplement irrigation or hand watering. Easy to use and I don’t have to pick up eggshells from raccoons in my compost tunnels.

Too small to be very practical
I have a very small urban garden and wanted an in-ground worm composter that had a smaller footprint. This is a bit too small to be practical. Although it seems well constructed and designed, the hole is simply too small to make putting anything more than a small handful of scraps at a time practical. Forget about trying to turn anything around in the container as matter decomposes. My search for a better, smaller worm composting option continues.

Time will tell
I'm still in the process of filling up raised beds with good soil, so I don't have the places I want them to be buried ready yet. But they are a simple design, basically a tiny compost bin you bury in a garden until only the top lip is visible, fill it with organic matter and put the cap on. I see no reason why this won't work as described. The real question is will these worm composting units allow a quick enough decomposition that nothing will turn too fermented that it kills nearby plants, and the answer is it gets enough airflow that this shouldn't be a problem, but I will be sure to update if I am proven wrong. In all, it is a novel concept to me that has multiple benefits (like thermogenesis from the decomp cycle during winter time, it could work really well in combo with a frost blanket or better a greenhouse.), I like this, and would get one for every raised bed I have.
