Living in the great Hurricane State of Florida, I’m always on the lookout for items I can use to survive when the power goes out – which often stays out for days at a time. I got this gorgeous enamel camp kettle because I can use it to boil water for tea or cooking either on a tripod over a campfire or in my solar oven. Enamelware is highly recommended for solar ovens because the dark color and sturdy metal help absorb and retain the heat of the sun.This kettle has a huge 12-cup capacity, and yet it only has a 6” diameter footprint. Great space saver! I really admire the fine craftsmanship and construction of this kettle. It has that great classic camp coffee pot shape, too. It’s easy to pour and easy to clean. It can even go in the dishwasher. I love that it’s not made with any plastic or aluminum and is completely non-toxic. I made my first pot of cowboy coffee this morning using this camp kettle, and the coffee turned out great! Since it is still hot Summer here, I used a camp stove rather than building a fire. But even without the addition of smoke flavor I liked the results.The things that I like most about this pot is that it looks very nice, it is light weight, it is sure to enhance the aesthetics at any camp site, and also the simplicity of design. There are not many things that can break, and nothing to lose unless something does breaks. Since I seem to have the ability to lose just about anything not attached, this is a good thing for me. The enamel coating makes it a breeze to clean, and unless it chips, it will keep this pot looking good for a long time.What I like least about the pot is related to the things that I like, and you can't have things both ways. Because it is thin and light weight, it might be easier to dent or damage. The swing arm is loosely attached with the arms held in holes by the springiness of the heavy gauge wire, This swing arm handle will not stand up out of the heat of the fire on its own, unless of course you hang the pot over the fire using the swing arm. The lid also fits loosely and is attached using a small, non removable pin. Examining the pot, I wonder how long the thin coat of enamel will last, will it hold up to heavy use?These are mostly problems that are not really problems for me, none of them would stop me from purchasing and using this pot. I'm just trying to let you know what you are getting, it is a very nice camp kettle and I like it a lot, but if I could have it both ways I would beef the construction up just a little.This is a good camp kettle, and if you are looking for one that is simple and easy, that gets the job done, and looks really nice at the camp site, then this one is probably right for you. If you are looking for something heavy, really fancy, having more parts and a tighter fit, or is of a high grade of construction, then this kettle is probably not for you.

This is a classic camping kettle that looks very nice. No more metal for potential rusting as it is enameled. I like the blue enamel as blue is my favorite color. Fits the small eye on a cookstove just right, the enameling is holding up well after several uses. The top bail stays cool enough to handle the coffee pot, and I was able to use the tip handle without a rag shortly after removing the pot from the heat. Doesn't have a percolator basket, it's the style you drop your grounds in and then boil the water, and put some cold water down the spout before serving. Made a nice smooth cup of coffee.
