American Marine Pinpoint pH Monitor Package

I was having problems reading the chemical test kits. I kept getting every color on the chart with the same sample. Even when I would settle on one color, I would use a test strip, and come up with a different pH level. Finally, I got sick of dealing with that and wanted to take control of my tank, so I bought this. Some reviews said it was difficult to calibrate, but I felt it was pretty straight forward and simple. It does however take a little bit of time though. Take your time letting the monitor settle in the calibration fluids, if you don't let it settle, your calibration will be off. Mine works great, and now I know for sure what my pH level is!My only advice about getting this pH monitor is to decide if you may want to get a controller at some point. After 2 weeks, I was enlightened to the reef keeper controllers, and will be purchasing one soon. They come with pH monitors in the controllers, so it would be pointless to buy this, and then get another one with the controller. Don't make the same mistake I did, think it through before you buy!

Despite the fact that several studies have not shown this device to be any more accurate than the basic API high range pH test kit which costs $5, I got one. What a mistake. After calibrating, I put it in my main tank. It seemed to be reading lower than I anticipated. I noticed some air bubbles trapped along the sides so I wiggled the probe very gently in case an air bubble was making the probe give incorrect readings. The pH immediately dropped to 6.0 and some liquid began flowing out of it into my tank. I immediately pulled it out and verified that whatever was inside the probe was dripping out. I tried to recalibrate, but it won't hold the calibration or give anything like a correct reading. AND I have mystery chemicals from this thing in my tank. AND I have to pay to ship it back to get a refund.

Calibrating this device is a pain in the neck because the digital reading never stabilizes. If you leave the probe in the calibration fluid for ten minutes, you will see the reading continue to drop for ten minutes. The whole "calibration" process ends when the user runs out of patience and settles for what is probably an *approximate* pH reading for both 4.0 and 7.0. Adding to this the fact that the probe itself only lasts a year before you must shell out a 100.00 for another one, then you realize there are better options. Even one of those 20.00 dollar Dr. Meter/Etekcity pH pens are far more stable, reliable and cheaper than the PinPoint system.

Monitoring pH levels in a fresh water aquarium can be a hassle, but this instrument makes it easy. Calibration is a little difficult but once done, it works very well.

Installed for a week now, and readings are accurate based on comparison with API master test kit. Calibration was basically easy. I put the fluids in sterilized medicine viles, which made using them much easier (compared to working with the envelope like packets). Calibrated once, and then a second time the next day (after being in the tank for a day). The second calibration was important. PH value changes quickly (somewhat annoyingly) at the hundredths place value (ie, 2 decimal places), but the tenths and whole numbers are consistent. Seems to be a good product. Recommended.

This thing is a life saver. Everything as advertised, very accurate and continuees monitoring. Although it does not come with the power cord pictured. I use this for my CO2 injected aquarium where pH is very important for monitoring the CO2 levels. I do have to calibrate it monthly, but otherwise i love it!

so the first one i got did not turn on at all. the seller was amazing and provided return label and quickly sent me a 2nd one. the 2nd one did not turn on at all ... again...unless i held the battery connector tight to the battery. after calibrating the unit 6 times i STILL could not get an accurate PH reading - it was almost 1.25 off constantly - returned it for refund as i did not want to mess with a 3rd one.
