In 1950s London, imperious fashion designer Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) gained the focus to rise to his profession's peak through rigorous routine and the ability to regard the women in his life as wholly disposable. Drawn to ordinary waitress Alma (Vicky Krieps), he pulls the young naif into his lifestyle as a muse-and ultimately discovers that this Galatea can't and won't be summarily dealt with. Stylish character study from Paul Thomas Anderson co-stars Lesley Manville, Sue Clark. 130 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English. Two-disc set.

A contemplative story
My first Daniel Day-Lewis film. I watched it twice in the same sitting. What an actor! I predicted to myself that he would be the most powerful example of 'method acting.' It turned out right. My research helped me to discover that I was right. What I liked about the movie was... everything! The story revolves around the famous tailor (Reynolds Woodcock) in 50s London who dresses socialites in England. His dedication to his craft is intense, he, on his admission, is a confirmed bachelor living in the city with his sister (Cyril) who also is unmarried. He is extremely set in his lifestyle. Daily life is most predictable and one thing happens after another like clockwork, and no deviations, please! His life goes topsy-turvy when a young waitress, from a country restaurant (Alma Elson), enters his home as his lover and muse. His routine gets disturbed. Even some noise made while buttering a toast disturbs him no end. Alma finds herself being used by him as one of the staff members. Reynolds wants no change in his routine, regardless of the fact that another human being is in his home and his life. Conflicts begin. Alma tries to demand attention and time from him as his partner. Along the way, he marries Alma. The story gets interesting and intriguing. Who wins the tussle between the two is worth watching. The backdrop is well-created with the right costumes and settings. The performances of all the three chief characters are impeccable. It is a necessary watch for serious movie buffs.

Good not Great
This is an interesting film but one of the lesser of Paul Thomas Anderson's films. Hence it should be free for those who have Amazon Prime so that one dis not have to rent it..

Huge potential lost in stiches
Thomas Anderson and Daniel Lewis. U expect fireworks. Nothing as such happens. On the contrary it's a slow old fashioned artistic tale between husband and wife. Art design costume cinematography stands out. It's a delicious treat which will leave u wanting more. Neverthless give it a try as an ode to Daniel day as his last piece of work. Amazon delights.
