Don Rosa's first baby steps as a duck story teller
don rosa's first few stories. art isnt strong yet but you can see his growth towards the end of the book. stories are fun but not his best. (those come later!) but this book is packed with so much good material and creativity! don rosa cares for the audience and puts in a 100 percent all the time..as always.packaging delivery all top notch. small bends on edge of book cover.. thats always okay with me as long as pages as untouched.

Marvellous recreation,and a marvellous re-creation.
I was hesitant.....could anyone come close to Carl Barks?Surely not possible. But eventually I plunged, and bought volume one of Don Rosa's work. And I wasn't disappointed, thankfully. This continuation of the greatest heritage of comics works does a good job of continuing the legacy of the great Carl.I grew up reading about Scrooge and Donald, and have never lost my taste for them, never will, and now I can enjoy more of their adventures, albeit by another hand.Suitable for kids of all ages,be you 5 or 500(I;m not quite Methusalah---yet!) a very welcome discovery for me.Happy hours ahead!

Don Rosa Library vol. 1: The Son of the Sun
The Don Rosa Library is the third installment in Fantagraphics' series of Disney books. The previous series (which are both still running) - the Floyd Gottfredson and Carl Barks libraries - have been living up to everything I could possibly hope for and the Don Rosa Library is no exception.Don Rosa was active making Disney comics between 1987 and 2006 and this volume covers his first year of comics, 1987-1988. As a Disney comics author he has both been highly praised but is also somewhat controversial. His writing is really pushing the boundaries for Disney comics, both in emotional depth and subject matter. His art is highly distinctive and very "dirty" compared to other Disney artists (often compared to Robert Crumb). The most well-known story in this volume is probably "The Son of the Sun" from July 1987, which was his first official Disney story. This is a classic Barksian treasure hunt which takes the ducks back to the Andes (not to Plain Awful though but you'll find them going there in the next volume). My favourite is however "Last Sled to Dawson" which is essentially a sequel to Barks' "Back to the Klondike" (1953). It also marks Rosa's first foray into Scrooge's past with a lenghty flashback sequence of about seven pages. The third longer story in this volume is "Cash Flow" which is a good old Scrooge-versus-the-Beagle-Boys story. This volume also contains several shorter stories in the Barks 10-pager mold which is especially interesting considering that Rosa almost stopped doing these type of stories later in his career. In addition to the comics, the book also contains extensive writings on the stories and Don Rosa, all written by Rosa himself epecially for this publication. And more Don Rosa volumes is coming up and it will only get better! The second volume is coming up soon. And if this series like other two will be published twice annually, 2015 will be an amazing year for Rosa fans with the publication of volume 3 with stories such as "Return to Xanadu" and "War of the Wendigo"... and not to mention the fourth volume which will contain the first stories from Rosa's magnum opus, The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.

While it does not contain Rosa's best efforts, the three long stories in this volume ...
While it does not contain Rosa's best efforts, the three long stories in this volume are absolute classics, "Cash Flow" being my favorite for its physics-bending sci-fi theme. The inclusion of fairly extensive supplemental material is a welcome addition. Any comic fan should jump at the chance of owning Rosa's collected works in its native language. Forget about Ducktales, this is the REAL Duckburg.
