Gibraltar Mailboxes Whitley 4x4 Rust-Proof Plastic White, Cross-Arm Mailbox Post, WP000W01

First off, this kit does not come with the mailbox post (the part that goes into the hole surrounded by concrete). This is a plastic cover designed to fit over a 4x4 stud that you'll need to supply yourself. That was an extra trip to the hardware store for me.We used this mailbox post to set up our MuellerBox, which we've used to give free copies of the Muller Report to our neighbors. Unfortunately, some of the President's more colorful followers are prone to violence: the attached mailbox took a hard hit from what looks like a fist. This mailbox post is made of corrugated plastic that you screw a mailbox base adapter into (adapter onto post, mailbox onto adapter). Many of those screws were yanked out of the plastic by the impact.I was able to repair the mailbox easily, though. I had to remove the mailbox entirely. Once this was done, I fastened the mailbox base adapter back onto the post arm, but before I did, I inserted some wood reinforcement slugs; the gaps in the corrugated plastic are about an inch wide, so this was very easy to do with scrap wood already laying around the garage. I then screwed the base onto the post through the plastic and into the wood reinforcement. If our mailbox gets punched again, now it's ready to punch back.Overall, this product is well-designed, easy to install, and easy to keep clean. Consider some post-arm reinforcement if you have some yahoos in your own neighborhood.

Really nice quality and look for the price, but unit is very wobbly if simply installed over a wood post and screwed in. Crossbar sags and is loose side to side and up and down. My solution was to insert a piece of 4x4 above the crossbar and fit a screw and washer from the inside of the mailbox, through the upright and into the additional piece of 4x4. With this modification, I couldn't be happier. Matches my DIY lamppost nicely.

This was easy to assemble and install. I was a little disappointed in the height - going by the USPS regulations for how high the bottom of the box needed to be, I have a couple inches of my 4x4 post showing at the bottom. Seems like they could have made the 4x4 plastic piece just a bit longer. I just mounded up mulch around it though. Otherwise it's nice and sturdy. I didn't have to put the screws into the cross arm, but will keep an eye on it, may need to over time to keep it from getting wobbly. Hoping this will last a long time, I suspect the issue won't be this post but rather the 4x4 wood post.

Great looking mailbox! Super easy to install (instructions are just pictures so they take some interpretation, but otherwise easy). The top feels a little wiggly, I might add some extra reinforcement screws near the top of the post. We added the large mailbox over the standard mailbox and the instructions did not make it clear that the adapters for the large mailbox were attached to the mounting stand that came with the post.

I read some reviews that concerned me about the sturdiness of the product, but I am satisfied. I ordered a separate 4x4 no-dig post installation kit and I slipped this mailbox support over it. I already had a Gibraltar mailbox, so the fit was perfect. But I'm sure it is a universal mount. A stub-nosed phillips-head screwdriver would make securing the mailbox to the support a little easier. The cross brace slides into place and there are a couple of black clips that snap into the brace from through the top of the vertical post. Those were a bit hard to install perfectly, but I pressed them into place and used the butt of the hammer to press them down and snap in. I finished by using 4 supplied screws to lock the support into place on the 4x4 through the pre-drilled holes. Total install time was 15-30 minutes.

I bought this since our old wooden mailbox post was looking worn out. I cut the top off and slid this post right over it. The horizontal post that supports the mailbox is a little wobbly, BUT this is an easy fix. I had a foam insulation sheet that I cut little blocks out of and wedged them inside the post on the sides of the horizontal post. This made it much more stable and satisfactory. They give you an extra screw to anchor it in, but I doubted how much it would improve the stability so I opted to wedge the foam blocks in there instead. I’m sure anything that can be used as a wedge would work. Great post for the price.

I liked this product very much.. it's inexpensive, as well as simple but clean looking.. I bought this particular item to replace my mother's old mailbox stand which had seen better days. The fact that it was already held up by a 4x4" post made it all that much easier to install this post over such after measuring the height and using my reciprocating saw to cut off the top portion and merely sliding this piece over it and a few screws later I was done.. very simple and impressive...

For the price I was worried about the quality of the plastic however the product is heavy duty thick plastic and all of the components are well made. Assembly and installation took about 15 minutes since I had an existing post I dropped this over. The post slid exactly over my 4x4 with no gap and I added some strong weather proof glue to the I side to help cement it to the post. The only change i made was putting a solar light cap on top instead of the cap delivered. Looks good and is solid.
