What a great way to create a maker space for kids. Easy to use and gets them using their fine motor skills and creativitiy.

Perler beads are a great way to relax and create art, I have made over 100 projects over the last few weeks and it never gets old.

❖ This is a great, and cheap, creative activity for kids. (The ironing to melt the beads together might need to be done by adults depending on the kid).❖ For that matter they are fun for adults. If you like 8 bit Nintendo you can find patterns for just about all your favorite old Nintendo characters on the internet. The beads are the perfect medium for recreating those characters because they are about the same resolution as they were on your TV back in the day. (Just use Google to find the patterns. They are easy to follow)❖ You can even put your designs into acrylic molds and make coasters! It's surprisingly not hard to do this. The hardest part is finding a mold that's a good shape.❖ The beads melt perfectly under low heat from an iron. USE THE PAPER AS A BARRIER BETWEEN THE IRON AND THE BEADS!!! If you run out of the paper that comes in the bucket, you can use parchment paper from your local grocery store.❖ If you are getting this for kids, 5 years old is probably the minimum age where a kid can really do this as a project.

Great for projects

I loved Perler Beads as a child and was thrilled when my daughter was old enough to try them. They are just as fun as I remember! Its fun to create patterns and pictures on the bead plates; it is a great educational tool because it helps children count the beads, learn about colors and create patterns. The downsides to Perler Beads include the size of the beads -- small hands have a hard time placing the beads and if they fall out of place on the bead plate frustration mounts. The ironing of Perler Beads can also be tricky; if you don't get the iron hot enough, the beads won't stick together but if you get it too hot, the beads mush together and the design is lost. Overall Perler Beads are a fun project for boys and girls.
