Great at keeping my feet warm and dry
I started winter hiking one month ago. After my first winter hike with snow on trail got both my feet soaking wet from melting snow, I bought the OR gaiters to prevent the mistake.I am 5'8" and wears size 10 boots. I got the L size. At first, I wasn't sure if the sizing is correct since the bucket is facing towards the ground. After 4 hiking trips in various condition (raining, snowing), I didn't have any issue with the bucket damaged or rub against the ground. The gaiters keep my feet warm and dry. My most recent hike was around 25 to 30 degrees with high wind, my feet didn't feel cold at all. When I stopped for a break to tighten my boot lace, I literally see a bit of steam coming out of my boots when I open the gaiters! The only complaint I have is the gaiter strap tend to come out of the side holder during hike. I got tired on putting them back in during hike and use a twister to hold them in place.Overall, I am happy with the quality of the OR gaiters and would give five stars if not for the loose straps issue. However, a little bit of improvise should solve that issue.

light mountaineering and hiking dirty trails. They work incredibly well to keep things ...
Originally I had bought the Large given the measuring guide on the website which was of no real use. Exchanged for a Medium and it fit perfectly.I bought these with the intention of snowshoeing, upland bird hunting, light mountaineering and hiking dirty trails. They work incredibly well to keep things like rocks, sand and snow out of your boots. I post holed a few times up to my hip and I still didn't manage to get any snow into the gaiter. They work really well and didn't seem to leak or over heat at all. Adjusting the bottom buckle took a little time to realize I needed to make it tighter. The shoe lace holder works well in keeping the gaiter snug to your boots. The top securing strap is a bit weird. At first it didn't seem like there was much strap to work with and didn't cinch down very well. Once I pulled it through the material, it tightened down just fine. Ideally, they would have replaced the flat nylon calf strap with something that has some elasticity to it so that when you tighten it down, it can move and flex with you versus being fairly rigid around your calf but thats the only improvement I could possibly make. For the price its hard to beat this gaiter, I wasn't sure if I wanted to jump completely into goretex gaiters and I wanted more waterproofness than the lowest price OR version. These are exactly what I needed and I imagine they will last me quite a while.

They work great. A range of calf measurements could help sizing.
I bought these to do snowshoeing with. You never know when you'll want to get off the hard pack, so when you do, it's nice to know your boots won't get snow in them. I went snowshoeing once without gaiters and that was not very fun. These kept all the junk out and held up nicely. If I'm nervous about anything, it would be how long the bottom strap will last. After using them over about fifteen miles, though, I've seen no change in their condition--still looking great. Sizing wise, I bought a medium pair and thought they sized up nicely. I wear a 9 1/2 shoe, but as others will say, that doesn't help you much when it comes to the sizing guide. Others will tell you how tall they are and their weight (5'9" 150lbs) but what this thing really needs for a sizing chart is a calf measurement. My calf measures 15" around where the gaiters fasten at the top. If my calf were bigger, there would be room to adjust the gaiters out to accommodate maybe another inch at most due to the fact that the Velcro-style closure running the length of the back of the gaiter is only that wide. That said, if I were any smaller, this size wouldn't work. Keep that in mind if you are not sure of what size to get. If you're a smaller guy like myself, medium may be the way to go.

They fit large!!
These gaiters are made from quality materials (in China) and look like they should last for many years. However, the sizing sucks. I wear a size 11.5 (US) boot and the chart indicated that I needed a size XL. My 11.5 fit right in the middle of the 10-13 range, but no matter what I did I couldn't get them to fit snugly around my boots. In addition, the top of the gaiters were so large that I had difficulty cinching them down tight above my calf. When I talked to customer service at OR, they told me a size L (8-11) would definitely resolve my problem. The L is about 1/2" shorter than the XL and slightly smaller around the top, but they now fit snug against the top of the boots and won't allow snow or anything else in between the boot and the gaiter. I know a lot of reviewers have advised to order a larger size, but either OR has changed their product or the reviewer has extremely large (fat) boots. Gaiters are supposed to keep snow and other undesirable matter from getting into the top of the boot. They won't be effective if they're too large.

Sizing
Got the product as a Christmas present for my boyfriend. I ordered a Large because on Outdoor Research's website they have measurements listed for shoe sizes for gaiters. He is size 9.5/10 in shoes/boots. I really hope these fit him. I also noticed that they are most likely measured by the calf size. The large I ordered seems to have a pretty wide calf and my dad tried them on over jeans and they had a couple milimeters of space left around the calf. I probably should have ordered a size down so they could be adjusted/tightened. The gaiters are made to only 'loosen' the belt part when first received. I may suggest ordering a size down but my boyfriend has not tried them yet so I am not sure. The material does seem a bit cheaper than I thought it would be from a company like OR. But, they are only $33 and I think that these are great for a quick purchase for a trip, and they should last, and they will work. However if you like a quality material that lasts you should spend more.

same as my old ones
These appear to be nearly identical to my old ones that I wore out after many years except for the new ones have "OR" embroidered on them near the top of the gaiter, a stupid increase in weight that causes water to leak through the otherwise waterproof fabric. Overall, these are by far the best gaiters that I have used. I use these XL gaiters with size 15 leather telemark boots and hiking boots and they fit. I also have XXL Crocodiles for use over large plastic boots but they are heavier and much larger.
