Most recommended weaving book and with good reason
This is the most recommended book for rigid heddle weaving and with good reason. The directions are clear and the depth and variety of information is outstanding. I come back to this book over and over as I up my skills and want to progress. It walks you right seat through a table runner or pillow project, clearly explaining every step as you go and not just a simple, bland project but a patterned piece that is beautiful yet beginner friendly. It even covers tricks for fixing errors. It covers a host of interesting, easy patterns such as log cabin, open weave, and float patterns with a pick up stick. The projects are varied from tote bags and purses to vests and tops. There is an afghan with panels you sew together. There is even a pattern to weave a carry bag for your foldable loom.If I could only have one weaving book, I’d choose this one.

An old classic - slightly more complicated than others
I got this book alone with Jane Patrick's book right after getting my rigid heddle loom as I wanted to teach myself to use it. While the book sounds like it's a simple guide to rigid heddle weaving, I found Jane Patrick's book on Creative Cloth on the Rigid Heddle Loom to be more clear and succinct for a new weaver. This book has a lot of good information, nice background reading, more explanation on looms, structure, color theory, and things like that, but the patterns are more complicated to weave, and frankly are really out dated. I did not find any of them to be inviting to actually do the project as they all looked like they were from the 60s.The book is a good resource, however, if you want to read more on looms and drafting basics and other reference information on rigid heddle weaving. If you want to teach yourself to weave and have a clearer guide to weaving, I'd recommend the Jane Patrick book instead.

If you want to weave on a Rigid Heddle you will love this book
Great reference guide for this kind of loom with great visuals and information. All you will need is this and the great videos from Ashford on simple warping. Good section on choice of fibers and yarns.

Advanced Beginner
If I were writing this review six months ago, I probably would have given Hands On Rigid Heddle Weaving two to three stars because of my lack of understanding of the content. Skill is somewhat subjective but I would consider this book to be for an "advanced" beginner to an experienced weaver rather than for a brand new beginner given the nature of the included projects which are more geared towards the larger rigid heddle looms. However, I really enjoyed making the log cabin design which looks complicated but is one of the easier patterns to do on any size of loom. I have a feeling that this book will grow on me as I gain in knowledge and confidence.

wish I bought this first
I bought a rigid heddle loom and the beginner book the owner suggested. Granted I was able to have sucess with my first project but felt there was much more to weaving. I bought this book and learned so much about weaving in general as well as things specific to the rigid heddle. I wish I had purchased this book to learn from as it goes beyond the first few projects and into various ways to manipulate the weaving to create different effects and it had a lot more projects than my original beginner book. While I probably will never go beyond the rigid heddle, I now have a much better understanding of weaving in general and since I have no desire to make yards and yards of fabric, I will probably continue to explore and enjoy my little loom.

Not an absolute beginners book.
As an absolute beginner, I found this book difficult to understand, maybe it's more a reflection on me, than the author. For most things I do need book in hand and whatever in the other. But on ordering and browsing, 'The Weaver's Idea Book' by Jane Patrick, which explains more, it is now making a little sense.

Hands on Rigid Heddle Weaving
I am only learning to weave and I have found this book useful. Later as I get more experienced I will get a more advanced book. This book will do me for the moment as it explains the processes needed for a beginner.
