Never Ever, buy an Asus Product, unhelpful, dogmatic, avoidant, and unethical warranty support.
I almost never 1 star review, if I do, I can assure you its after careful consideration and deep reflection. But in this case, I worked with their warranty and support department over 2 months, and gave them every opportunity to make this right. I bought this laptop, because I had a new assignment for work that involved AI, video processing, and I knew my old cast off former corporate laptop was going to fail and struggle. When picking it out, I spent weeks carefully considering thr cost, performance, pro and con reviews, and like most people of limited means, cost of the system. I thought that this unit was especially well built, had the power to handle the astrophotography editing, and video AI work, and it was frankly a gift to myself for landing a new project I was excited to be a part of. If I knew hen, what I know now, I would have chosen a laptop from ANY other maker. My laptop broke, the first day I had it, fell off the edge of the couch and onto a tile floor, and the corner of the display shattered and cracked, as I was mid project, I had to wait to return it, that burned through my accidental damage insurance, but I was ok, and glad. The repair took 7 weeks to complete, and due to the covid, I didn't complain. Then 4 weeks later, the laptop beeped one time, then just quit black screened, no error warning or shut down. I tried for 2 days to figure it out, and I went to their forum, I saw that lots of people had reported a similar error. They also said, that sometimes removing the battery, while the power cord was disconnected, most of the time fixed this issue. So I did the due diligence, I'm a trained IT person, with 15 years experience in hardware, and board level repair. In order to remove the battery, you have to disconnect the speaker connector, no big deal I thought. So I tried the test, and then nothing, no post, no led flashes, nothing worked at all, just like before. So I reassembled the laptop, and when I was reseating the speaker connector it snapped right off. I'd put no pressure on it, and it just basically fell right the heck off the motherboard, see picture. Once I called Asus about the power issue they asked me if I'd done the Faq steps, when I explained I had, and they there was no post, led activity, or response in any way they issued an RMA. But when I mentioned the connector, hey stayed that I'd now have to pay for he motherboard. I asked how much that would be, and stayed I didn't believe it was my fault because it was already broken, he said it should be about 400. So I packed it up and sent it in. I wrote a letter to include, as well as the connector that had fell off, and asked them to please only perform, the repair if he power was confirmed the issue, because he speaker connector wasn't related I didn't want it repaired if it was going to be a separate operation and cost. I have now been fighting with them, for literally hours each day, they also estimated the repair at $1100.00, and will not replace the motherboard, unless impact 1100 for the broken speaker connector. I could honestly give not one care if that speaker connector, an unrelated issue gets repaired. I consider this a severe breach of my trust, and also a breach of he warranty. Their warranty clearly states its covering both materials and workmanship, and a speaker connector, that can't survive being disconnected, and reconnected is a severely flawed and cheap piece of hardware. That's not withstanding the total failure of the power to the board. So as I'm still making payments on this computer, and can't afford the repair, now they are charging me $100 to return my unrepaired computer, which is basically a brick. Oh also they won't diagnose the power issue, because of the speaker connector, which as you can see in the picture is not a short, or can't be a cause of the power failure. So I'll end up repairing it myself, at a cost of 100 for a computer that also hasn't had a proper power diagnosis and root cause analysis. I can never trust Asus again, made in Taiwan should have been my first clue. So now I'm the proud owner, of an $1800 paperweight. I'm going to keep it on my desk, so I never forget my treatment by this company. They refused to do the right thing, and I'm as disappointed as i have ever been with a company ever. So he lesson here, is NEVER EVER BUY ASUS....

Almost Perfect
This laptop is very nice, I’ve had it for about 3 months now and it’s running very smooth. Starts up fast, everything loads fast, and you can even game on it with ease. The screen quality is beautiful and the touch screen option is very nice. And the screen pad is a great option to have, comes in useful a lot of times and you can even make the screen pad into a secondary touch screen display! It would be nice if there were more apps that support the screen pad though. Some cons about this laptop I have tho is it has that occasional coil whine every time you use it. It heats up pretty fast and if you keep it on your lap it’ll make your legs nice and crispy because it kinda pinches from how hot it gets, even when doing simple tasks. That’s the main thing I hate about this laptop is how hot it gets. The battery life isn’t the best either. I get around 3-4 hours on a full charge if I’m on performance mode and around 6-8 if I’m on full power saver mode. One thing that concerns me about this laptop though is the flex cable that attaches the screen to the motherboard, every time I open the screen I can hear the cable move and it worries me because it sounds like it could break. And lastly the stickers on this laptop from the factory, they all left spots after them when I took them off and have no idea how to clean them off, tried rubbing alcohol and everything.Overall this is a good laptop for the money, just wish the battery life was better and that it didn’t heat up so much.

100% garbage
Basically wasted $1600 (bought it on discount), wish I can upload photos or videos:Reason why I chose ASUS: Had an ROG long time ago, working very well, decided to get a laptop for both work and music productionWork: The screen is malfunctioning (explain later)Music production: Extremely loud fan and weird noise somewhere near the touch pad, and the noise is recorded into my vocal, basically ruining everythingBattery life: ~30mins watching YouTube video onlyScreen quality/Touch Screen: The screen always shows black lines/dotted lines while I am using Excel, Power Points and Mind Map, haven't tried other software. Lines are removable if I scroll the screen back and forth but really annoyingWhen I got the laptop there was a weird noise around the touch pad, sent it back, got charged 15% of $1600 by Computer Upgrade King because they don't think that is a problem, solved by Amazon, purchased a new one, had the same problem and I thought maybe it is what it is until the noise is recorded into my vocal during music production. Gave up music production, try to just use this laptop for work, then the black lines on the screen stopped me and it is part of the reason I am writing a review now.Just to note that although I got the laptop for 6 months but it is barely used because of all the problems it comes with and I got a desktop (built it on my own, around $2000, still working well after 4 years, ironically) so I do not believe the short battery life, screen malfunctioning and noise is caused by me.Yes, I bought insurance but not sure if I will even use it or just get a new laptop and throw this piece of garbage away.

Exactly what I wanted
When my old laptop expired on me, I needed a new one ASAP since I use it for college. I didn't want to go to a local store since getting exactly what you want is a real pain in the butt. Well, I found this one and it had everything I wanted. Good specs, good screen, and a great price! (I got it used). I bought it early Monday morning and was setting it up on Tuesday evening. I've since been able to do all my school work and even install some games. It plays Darks Souls 3 and Skyrim on the highest settings and plays them perfectly. I'm very happy with this purchase and the seller.

heavy and the track pad sucks
sure it's amazingly powerful but it is almost impossible to use without a mouse because the track pad "sticks". the track pad screen is cool in theory but it is just a gimmick. and the power supply provides custom voltage over a non-usb connector so you can't use a portable supply if you want to. basically, i screwed u when i chose this over a dell xps 15

Lab-top with Versatilities
I chose this lab-top because it comes with features of 4K screen resolution, touch screen and screen pad which can do small side jobs without using the main screen. The Bluetooth 5 makes the pairing with other bluetooth devices much easier and faster. Overall, the performance of UX580GE-XB74T is pretty good.
