Works great for my needs
Works great for me. I am very hard of hearing and my main criteria when purchasing a new car is sound levels and the ability to have a conversation in the car under normal road and highway conditions. To take out the subjectivity, I test drive vehicles on the same roads using the sound meter and note the sound levels at idle, slow, road speed, and interstate speeds. I have my wife watch the meter and record the sound levels next to my ear. This device had a little broader frequency range and a little broader sound level range than cheaper models. The broader frequency range is useful for my purpose. It works well and as advertised for this purpose.

Good value for the features offered.
This is a good SPL meter that offers a few features the cheaper options don't. Max hold, screen backlight, ability to switch between A and C ratings and hi/lo ranges. Even though it is not certified like much more expensive meters, I trust this more than the widely found cheaper options that are only A rated and I also believe it is more accurate than any cell phone app.The instructions are clear enough but do not include any information on whether this device can be further calibrated if one has access to a reference meter.I am using this in live audio measurement and as part of my toolkit for measuring room acoustics for installation of acoustic treatment. As a budget-conscious buyer, I have several other Pyle products in my toolkit and have not had any problems with this brand's products.

Great tool
At first glance, the SPL meter almost looks like a toy. However, it is an amazing product. I bought it primarily to check for sound levels from my receiver to set safe sound levels, but I was able to use it to verify the Audissey XT balancing that the receiver performed. At the test spot which I used to balance the stereo, the Pyle SPL showed a consistent DBA rating for all of the channels. DBC ("C" weighted decibel) is used to balance stereo systems, but I was able to verify that from a human ear perspective the noise level at the listening post would not exceed 85 dba by setting a max volume that produced sounds close to this range on the receiver.Highly recommend that one gets an understanding of how "loud" safe listening levels really are using an SPL meter.

Good low end soud level meter
I used this to measure the noise in my car before and after installing sound deadening material. It functioned well and was easy to use after a little practice. I can't speak about accuracy because I got it to measure relative differences.

readings are inaccurate and unreliable
Found out after using this meter for 2+ months to calibrate surround sound rooms that this monitor is consistently reading dB levels higher than they actually are, resulting in incorrect calibration of audible levels. Readings do appear to be consistent, so you are inclined to trust them, but they are grossly inaccurate, and there is no way to know without comparing to other meters in the same environment. I ultimately found out after comparing this meter's reading side by side with others after complaints that sound levels in calibrated rooms were low. Also found that A mode on this meter matched C mode on others - there may be many things out of spec with this meter. This meter cannot be relied on for accurate measurement.

Good quality product
This is a great budget sound meter! Compared to my professional meter, it fell within 1/10 of a decibel. It measures both a and c levels accurately. I would recommend this to anyone needing to calibrate a home theater system

It works ok most of the time
I guess you get what you pay for. I bought this thinking that it might give an idea of the SPL at my church. It does that, just not repeatably. It says that there's a built in calibration but I can't find how to do it. Documentation is seriously lacking.
