I love this thermometer.I'll have to admit, I'm not sure what some of these other reviewers are talking about regarding the need to constantly keep the thermometer against the forehead in order to get an accurate reading. You can pull it away from the forehead and still get an accurate reading. In fact, if your house is relatively the same temperature from one room to the next, or from the kids' bedroom to the hallway, you can push and hold the button, take the temperature, wave it in the air, walk to another room, release the button then, and it'll give you the same accurate temperature. (I just did this, and it was just as accurate as following the other reviewers' instructions--touch it to your forehead, push button, scan, release button, and only THEN release it from your forehead.)So all those complaints about it not having a backlight? Just keep the button held and walk out into the lighted hallway.I do agree that if you take the temperature a couple times they may differ, especially if you weren't doing it very well, sometimes more than a degree. But I found that once I got better at the method all my temperature readings will be within a degree, and, even if they aren't, just understand that the highest temperature will be the most accurate. (The few exceptions to this, such as if the head was covered by clothing, are written in the instruction booklet.)The good news--and the reason it's so easy to get an accurate temperature--is that you can leave the button depressed for as long as you need to. A squirming kid? Just keep that button depressed and even if it takes you a good five minutes of trying to run it across their forehead, you'll get your accurate temperature. I have a feeling that most of the people not getting good readings are just barely touching it to their kids' skin. Either that or maybe they did happen to get a "lemon."It takes about a thousand readings per second, and when you let go of the button it'll show you the highest. While the button is depressed, it will do these cute quick beeps every time it finds a higher reading.If you're new to the thermometer, I highly recommend taking the temperature at least three times and comparing--then go with the highest as the most accurate. We did this one day when our daughter was 104. She was young enough at the time and it was during the night so we took her in to the ER. Guess what? The ER measured her temperature at EXACTLY, to the TENTH OF THE DEGREE, the highest temperature my thermometer had read.This thermometer is the easiest, most non-invasive, fabulous thermometer I have ever seen, and I have tried all others except the rectal -- and the rectal definitely fails in the non-invasive category. I can use this temporal thermometer on my newborn with just as good accuracy as on myself. I can use it on her while she's sleeping and she doesn't wake up. (She usually stirs, which involves moving her head around, so that makes it a bit more difficult, but again, I just keep the button depressed and keep scanning.)This is my FAVORITE thing to get people for baby showers. It's less common than the normal baby clothes and bedding gifts, and it's something parents don't always think about when preparing for their little ones' arrival. And it's in a price range that makes it something that they might not have bought for themselves, and hence, it's usually very appreciated.My only word of caution: My infant got a hold of it one day, and I'm not sure what she did (although I'm positive she had the thing in her mouth and slobbered everywhere all over it), but the temperature no longer worked right. It continually measured 3 degrees less than what it had been measuring, so for example, I measured at 95.6, hee hee. So, don't let your kid slobber on it. I ended up throwing it away and went to the store to get a new one....

I have 3 kids so I’ve tried several different thermometers throughout the years. I like the speed of this read and precision (multiple reads give similar temperatures). I got frustrated with the Baur, Vicks, and other off brand thermometers because they would give readings ranging several degrees and I could never rely on them. This is the first thermometer that seems precise and accurate. For newborns I would suggest using this as a indicator of whether or not you need to do a rectal temperature as that is the most accurate way to tell.Also I learned that you need to pressure the bottom as you put the sensor on their forehead otherwise it pulls up a lot of stored precious temperatures and doesn’t take a reading.Pros: speed, precision, accuracy, cost, quiet, easy to use, reliableCons: may need to take recital temperature for newborns, readings seem to run slightly low

I have a 3 y.o. and a 1 y.o. So, on top of them getting sick all the time, we are also affected very often. With all this sickness going around, I've had a chance to use this product extensively since receiving it. And for 99% of time, the product works really really well.Pros :As advertised, the product is very easy to use. Swipe your forehead as directed and you got your temp. in less than 3 seconds or so. Some times your kids move too much and you'll have to repeat the effort. But what's another 3 seconds.The taking of the temperature is so NOT intrusive that you won't wake your baby. And comfortable for you as well. No more holding a thermometer under the arm hoping s/he won't wake before it beeps.The readings I'm getting are pretty accurate. It's not too hard to get an accurate reading. You'll get an occasional reading that are too low, but that's when you've lifted the sensor off the skin or some thing. It's mostly an operator error, which you notice most of the time.Cons :If you are sweating, it's harder to get a reading. The manual advises to get an reading behind the ear. And this seems to work for us. THAT'T IT...the only con.Summary :REALLY, I love this thing. This should be a standard item for any parent with a new baby. Being able to get an accurate reading with very little effort is priceless, when you think your kids are sick.I'm buying this as a gift for all of my "GOOD" friends, when they have a baby.
