GEARWRENCH 3/8" Drive 14 Flute Oil Filter End Cap Metric Wrench 65mm - 3253D

I just purchased a 2014 ZX6R(636). The oil filter is in a great spot because the design of this location pretty much eliminates any spill from the oil filter when it's being removed. However, the location yields very little to no room to twist the filter by hand, and we all know a brand new motorcycle from the dealer always has its OEM filter LOCK JAW TIGHT because dealers over tighten oil filters all the time. In reality, you only need the oil filter hand tight. Making it too tight will seize the seal. Just apply some oil around the rubber seal before twisting hand tight, and it will make a nice seal.Anyway, I purchased one of those oil filter strap wrench things, but it doesn't seem like it'll have the clearance needed either so I decided to look into a oil filter wrench like this. I did a lot of investigation on different ones, and decided on this one that happened to be the cheapest, but looked the best from the pictures and has a 3/8 socket for a breaker bar or ratchet. I went ahead and purchased this along with the TEKTON 1695 3/8-Inch Drive x 12-Inch Flex Breaker Bar, and it's a perfect math. The oil filter wrench cap fits right into the small area and right over the filter nice and snug. I can tell when I attach the breaker bar to it, it's going to work nicely, but my bike still has 0 miles on it as it's still Winter here in NY, but I'm simply preparing for my first two oil changes before the first service, and I would like to remove all the metal flakes from break in prior to the 600 mile service. I don't want to ride 600 miles with metal flakes floating in my oil, and going into my oil filter. I plan to do a oil change around 75 miles, another at 300 miles, and THEN at 600 miles, bring her in for her first service, and then around 2500 miles, I'm going to go with Mobil 1 4T 10w40, and she's going to be running like a champ broken in perfectly.The Ninja 300's OEM Oil Filter is EXACTLY the same as on the newer ZX6R's, so this Oil Filter Wrench Cap WILL that one as well in case you're having trouble removing your OEM filter. However, the oil filter on the Ninja 300 is EXTREMELY easy to get to. When I had my Ninja 300, I didn't even need to use any tools, I could just reach my hand right in, and easily access it. I used the K&N-303 Oil Filter after on the 300 that has the 17mm nut in the front so you can easily get it off. The K&N-303 Oil Filter also is the same filter you would use on the ZX6R in case you want to stop messing around with the OEM filters, but for the first 2 oil changes before my first service. I'm going to use the OEM filter. Even though the dealer can't void a warranty because I did oil changes prior to the first service, I'm going to use OEM filters this way it looks as if I didn't do anything not that it would matter.By law any dealer can't void your warranty over you doing your own work to your car or bike. A lot of people confuse this. The fact of the matter is, the only thing they can do is void a warranty " job " if they can prove the part you installed is the root cause of the issue. For example, you try to do your own custom map on your ECU, and you screw up, and you can't flash the ECU back to normal, and you're forced to bring it to the dealer. They won't warranty that because they can prove YOU messed it up, but if your gauge cluster stopped working or something within your 1 year warranty period, they would replace it under warranty no problem. They CAN'T EVER void your warranty AS A WHOLE. They can ONLY decline a warranty claim " job ", and that will only affect that ONE REPAIR. Hope this clears that up.

This tool may work great if you know for a fact that your paper filter holder (like my RAV4) isn't cranked like crazy by the last person who changed it. The bottom side of this tool has a drive nut that's spot welded to the body of the tool with 6 very tiny spot welds. I broke the spot welds in about 10 seconds trying to get my filter holder off. The tool that you really need to use is the Assenmacher TOY 640. Amazon took back this broken tool no problem and I replaced it from amazon with the TOY 640. This tool does work on a 2007 RAV even though that tool says it's 64mm and that RAV is technically listed as a 65mm. The TOY 640 is one solid piece of cast aluminum. It's the right tool for the job.

Works well. I hate the fact that it is required. I use it for my 2010 Toyota matrix.

I've owned a few wrenches since I discovered this fine bit of shanannagins that Toyota put on their filters, and this is the best one I've got. This is not shop quality, it is homeowner quality. It does not, however, require a 3/4 x 1/2 or 3/8 adapter to get into.The first time I saw this new design, I was pretty angry. Mind you, I was hoping to do the change on the fly for my then wife-to-be whom I was only courting at the time, and discovering that the design was different AFTER I drained the oil was frustrating. Add to that that the guy at the parts store gave us an old-school style filter, so I was the more frustrated upon getting under there.I immediately started the search for this wrench, running across such fakers as the assenmacher(?) 640, which does NOT fit, though I wish it did, as it was a much more superior tool. This tool, however, fits so well that I actually left it on there for about the first 60k miles, when I suddenly received payment for my lack of forsight and thought for that matter, by it magically disappearing. I have since purchased two more.All in all, the wrench works great. Nothing more to it. I do wish Toyota had simply put a slot for a 1/2" driver with into the vehicle, but the car runs well and is otherwise very easy to maintain.

I used it on 2 vehicles:2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V82009 Toyota Rav4 4 cylIt fits both Toyota vehicles, because they have the filter housing with replaceable filter media cartridge, but it is also has a loose fit on both. The problem is that because it is a little loose, it can get stuck on the filter housing. The looseness allows it to slip a little and jam the filter housing in the tool, making it difficult to remove the tool from the housing.The reason for the 1 star rating is that when I bought the used 2008 Toyota Tundra in 2011, the filter housing was on very tight. I was able to remove the filter housing, but the tool was jammed on it. While trying to remove the jammed tool, I dropped the housing and perforated tube in the housing came off. I wasn't able to reinsert the perforated tube into the housing properly and had to purchase a replacement from the Toyota dealership. That is partly my fault for having butter fingers, but if it fit properly this would not have happened. Any money I saved by purchasing this tool was lost when I had to replace the filter housing.I think the tool is poorly made and you would do better to purchase a better quality tool and save yourself from problems caused by this one.
