Works great and easy to install
Works very well in my xbox 360. Replacing the control board was very easy to do. Just go slowly and carefully when removing the ribbon cables and attaching to the new drive. Powered up and worked like a champ.

Great replacement drive - do your homework before trying to replace
I purchased this drive after the Hitachi Drive that came with my Xbox 360 stopped working (kept getting "insert CD" and "open tray" errors). This drive works exactly as it should, and I have no complaints about it. I warn you, however, that you will need to do some homework on how to spoof the drive key (and drive type if you have a different model) of your original drive.I read some of the negative reviews before purchasing this model, and as a relatively tech saavy person (I have substantial experience in computer networking, programming, and regularly build and configure my own systems), I figured they were just the victims of ID-10-T errors (remove the dashes, and you'll figure it out). After undergoing the process myself, I can understand their frustration.I reiterate that the problem has nothing to do with this product, which now performs perfectly. The problem is that there are no "swap and play" solutions for the Xbox 360 DVD drive - as other reviewers have pointed out, they each carry special keys which are tied to that specific system. In order to get any replacement drive to work, you need to "trick" the Xbox into thinking that the new drive is the same drive as the old drive (i.e. spoofing its key and model).Unfortunately, given the many DVD model types available, and given that the spoofing can be accomplished in several ways, it is difficult to find a guide on how to do this simply (e.g. replacing a Hitachi drive with a Samsung drive is a completely different process than replacing a BenQ drive with a Samsung drive, which is different than replacing a Samsung drive with a Samsung drive). Each drive has its own quirks, and many of the guides are tailored to a specific scenario, and most of the guides are incomplete or poorly written for those with no experience on how the Xbox 360 works.Took me about 2 days after work to make it work, but now I have a fully functioning replacement drive - again, this is not the fault of the product, but my own inability to comprehend how the process worked. Once I understood, it was a piece of cake.In summary, be sure to do your homework before you attempt to replace the drive. Finding a "step by step" guide may be a hit or miss, especially if you run into any problems. You really need to understand how to extract your original drive's firmware/key; how to extract this drive's firmware; and how to reflash the firmware on this drive to reflect the key and model number of your original drive.

XBox DVD Replacement Part
You must be very careful to order the "EXACT" replacement part, from the make, model and requirements. We ordered this part thinking that it could be interchangeable. That is not the case - it would not play games, only movies because it was not the same make/model series. Who would have thought that there could be so many different makes/models of this drive used in the XBox? Why wouldn't they have used a standard version for all gaming systems made by XBox of that model/year? We've now ordered 2 different DVD drives, and still don't have a working game system. If you are unable to find the exact replacement...don't waste your money or time, it won't work. If you get a part that is not an exact replacement; there are many complicated steps to follow "called flashing" and it could mess up your system and make your system inaccessible to XBox Live.

Fast shipping
All I can say is, Fast shipping! This part would of worked AWESOME, if I would of made sure I bought the correct one. I bought this as a replacement for my xbox 360 that had Door opening issues....after pulling it apart, then realizing it was the wrong one--I put the old one back together, and oddly, it was working fine since then. I'm going to keep this around, just in case someone else has this model.

IT IS NOT FOR XBOX360
First it is not for Xbox 360 and it was a waste of time and money to me and I think it was for DVDs. And what if I did have an original that worked. What am I going to have to change it now and then!??

Fantastic!
Fantastic deal! I was considering trading my xbox into gamestop for a refurb'd because my disk drive was reading intermittently, reading games as dvds, and making a whole bunch of awful noises. Instead I chose to replace my drive myself for half the cost of what gamestop would give me for my xbox. Very good decision. The hardest part of the whole replacement was getting the case for the xbox apart. The tangs on the back are a pain in the butt to get open without tearing them up.As far as flashing of the drive is concerned, you can flash the drive if you want but an easier way is to simply remove the circuit board from the old drive and replace the circuit board in the new drive with the one from the old drive. Now, on that note, if your circuit board is toast in your old drive them you WILL have to flash the new drive. From what I have seen however, the majority of the issues with the 360 drives are that the lens mechanism and motors in the drive wear out. After swapping the boards (requires you to reattach 4 ribbon cables which I believe requires a tech level 3 out of 10) and reassembling the case the machine fired right up, made less noise than before, and properly read all of my discs. I would highly recommend this route vs buying a new or refurbished system from a retailer.A note on the seller; Deal Barn was GREAT! I ordered the item on Tuesday morning and had the package waiting on my front door Thursday evening. Seller is in Indiana and I am in Kansas City so I think that was fantastic shipping time especially for USPS Priority mail. The shipping cost was a little high but definitely worth it for the 2 day turn around.
