HOKY LIVES UP TO NAME
All growing up, my grandmother had a Hoky. It was a puke yellow color and it was awesome. 10 years into my marriage and 4 kids later... I was searching for something to do a "quick pick up" on my area rug. I somehow stumbled across the memory of my grandmothers carpet sweeper. My whole downstairs is hardwood, and I hated hauling my vacuum up and down the stairs (almost daily) just to clean my area rug. Now don't get me wrong... I still do a thorough vacuum once a week... but with my littlest guy just starting to crawl... I was in need of something I could pull out of the closet, vacuum, and be done, in 2 minutes or less. THIS WAS THE TICKET! It's easy enough my 4, 5, and 7 year old to use. It picked up small rocks, cereal, lint, hair, wrappers... it is great! I was nervous about spending $40 on this baby... but I am SO GLAD I did!!! Totally worth it!!!! Now I can have a freshly vacuumed look ALL DAY LONG, and not worry about my baby putting something into his mouth!!!!!!

It doesn't work!
I ordered this to help pick up crumbs left under the table by my 3 year old and pick up endless clumps of fur left on my hardwood floors by a very furry golden retriever. I had high hopes that it would do a decent enough job to get me through between actual cleaning with a vacuum and hardwood floor cleaners. Unfortunately, this does not cut it in the least on hardwood floors. I tried everything but it didn't really pick up much of anything and instead pushed the pieces of rice around that were dropped on the floor. I've since turned to a stick vacuum that recharges and which I'm happier with for now, although I had really hoped to find something that didn't need to be charged or has the potential to lose battery life while I'm trying to clean. Maybe this works fine on carpet but I would definitely not recommend it to someone who wants to use it on their hardwood floors.

Finally found a Hoky like Mom's 26 year old one.
My mother and Nana had a Hoky that was very similar (I think they are the same model number but can't be positive). The differences - theirs was a horrid yellow/gold color with grey and this is red/black. Their yellow metal was a smooth finish and this has a textured finish. Both have a little black comb for cleaning the roller brush on the bottom. This brush snaps right on the pole for storage. While some reviews say this won't pick up anything, I have found the contrary. I believe this works as well as my mother's and Nana's on the Berber carpet, throw rugs, bathmats, and wood floors. The only issue I have with it - my tile floor - SOME things seem to just be pushed around that floor. However, in every other room it works wonderfully and everything gets picked up - including pieces of wood from lugging wood for the wood stove!

:(
I bought this because my in laws had one at their cabin and it worked like a charm. I wanted this for use at home in between vacuuming. We have 3 large dogs in the house and hair is a problem. The product is made well but sadly it did not work on my hair issues. It wouldn't even pick up little pieces of lint or food particles. I gave it to one of our sons and hopefully he'll have better luck with it. I got a Bissell as a gift and it works better, probably because it has more rollers, but the hair still gets caught in the rollers and I have to clean it out more often than I'd like. But it does a better job on picking up particles and keeping it instead of 'spitting' it back out. I guess I need to vacuum daily to keep up with the hair.....

Rugs Look Their Very Best
I was initially disappointed because it seemed flimsy and too small. But we have owned this for a year now and think it does a fantastic job. The low profile and smallish footprint enable it to get into small areas. It picks up hair, lint, crumbs, and dust beautifully and is easy to empty. We have Oriental rugs and they look much better since we stopped using the vacuum. Now we use the Hoky, pushing it in the same direction as the rug pile. This gives less resistance than pushing against the pile. This also combs and smooths the pile neatly and allows the rug design to be seen in its best alignment. Also you will get better light reflection. (If you want less light reflection, turn the rug 180 degrees.) For persons who think it is hard to push, or it is not picking up dirt well, check and see if one side of the roller has come out of the holder. This doesn't happen often, just a couple of times in a year.

good little sweeper, but are staring to have some problems of holding up
The first day this little sweeper came in I could not wait to use it. I tore it out the box and I was surprised at it's performance. It pick up so much dog hair that it was unbelievable. After all I vacuum once a week, mop the tile floor once a week and sweep every day, and I had just vacuumed 2 days prior. I like a clean house and specially clean floors, I am always barefoot when in the house and I leave my shoes at the door. So, I was pleased. Than, by the 3rd day it is still doing well but not as good as the first day and there are some small things that it just won't pick up (like a mop strand). I have never owned a carpet sweeper in my life so I have nothing to compare it to. I am 60 years old and weigh 97.2 lbs. so I try to use the vacuum less because it gets tougher each year to use. Today, I just order a Stanley sweeper to see if it does better. The little Hoky won't pick up my ashes that falls on the floor when I clean out my wood stove. But it still does very well with my dogs hair. I have a Basset Hound and she sheds a lot. I was buying those sticky lint rollers for the last year and what I spent on all those lint roller I could have purchased 3 of these sweepers. I so love how easy it is to clean this sweeper, it's a snap and so light it is so easy to use. I have used it so much in such a short time that the brissels are not holding up well they are staring to go sideways.

Hoky
I should have bought this years ago! I remember growing up with one and then they disappeared. I have some antique Persian rugs that it was recommended for but use it for all my oriental carpets. I'm amazed how much it picks up even after I vacuum! It's quick and easy to use and handy and inexpensive. I recommend it.

Great for quick jobs
Doesn't replace the vacuum but is a terrific addition. Works better on carpet and tucks away easily.

poor quality control
It arrived on time but when opened both dust pans flopped open. Two retaining springs were missed at assembly!

Absolutely the best carpet and floor sweeper!!
I love my new Hoky just like I loved my old one. I bought one in 1966 and lost it 20 years later in a divorce. Missed it since then!!

Our last HOKY lasted 44 years, it was a wedding gift, and we can no longer get new brushes. This HOKY replacement is equaly satisfying as it picks up dirt etc so well. We expect the same satisfaction will continue.
