another fine iron
They never last, I guess it's all that heating that does them in if you use them often, as I do. Or maybe it's the heat plus water issue that always makes them fail. This one has had a good start. It heats quickly, is a good weight, has some fun bells and whistles with digital readout - is easy to fill and empty. It works very much better as a steam iron than dry, and the shot of steam feature is great, but needs time to recover if you use it too many times within a short time period. I have hopes that this will last longer than most because it's really nice. I've spent well over $150 and as little as $30. Irons just don't live long if you use them.

Light, Heats Evenly, Slick, and Easy to Use Iron = Very Happy Ironer
A very good iron. Presses evenly, surprisingly well given how lightweight it is, and just glides along pretty effortlessly, weighing in at a slim 2.8 pounds (lbs). This heats up pretty fast and auto shuts off should it fall or lay down sole plate first for an extended period of time. The swiveling cord also adds to the convenience of this eliminating those moments when the cord is in the way (rare but annoying). Consumer Reports has it rated second highest in its test of irons (just below the Kenmore 80598 which doesn't look as nice nor have the conveniences this offers but Consumer Reports really likes that the Kenmore has an Off switch, 10' cord, and "more water than most" irons hence the higher score). And after six months of light to medium use, I can report no spitting problems yet, as some others have mentioned. Time will tell and I will definitely update my review should something change.

Powerful, leak-free iron
This is a really nice iron, with good water capacity, even steam distribution, and easy-to-read LED panel. Temperature settings can be adjusted up OR down via push-button switches. Heats up quick, and has an extra burst of steam button useful for when you want to steam blast a hole in your favorite delicate item. Just be careful, is what I mean! lolLast expensive iron we bought (different brand) leaked water all over the place like a rusty bucket- not this one though. Works well enough that I often do the ironing for my wife. It's THAT good!

Very good used iron
I purchased this used from amazon returns. This iron gets 5 stars for the ease of turning it on and off, no dial that requires extra effort to hold iron and turn. I embroider and like being able to just reach over, press the button 9 times and in 15 seconds its ready to go. It heats up very quickly. I also need one that shuts off when left down or on. I never would have imagined I would leave an iron down but I did. Really it was the spiders fault as I had to get someone to move it outside. I came back in the room to find I had left the iron down with TV comedy type results. lol I needed it to shut off because in my old age I find I wander off to do other things. hahaI have had no issues with the controls, no leaking issues. I expected some problems since it was a return but it was like new. The steam shuts off when you shut it off at the control. This is important as there are parts of what I iron that will get lumpy if steamed. I dont have problems with it spitting all over what I am ironing. I use distilled water. It does make a sputtering sound when brought upright but it doesnt come out of the iron. My old $10 iron spits huge amounts out when its lifted up.The reason for 4 stars. The linen setting just doesnt seem hot enough. Ive been meaning to put a laser thermometer on it to see what temp it really is but keep forgetting. I know my previous $10 iron is crazy hot on linen. For me this isnt usually an issue and if I really need super heat I break out the old one.Its more important I dont burn down the house and can press a button to turn on and off, than to have the linen setting be blazing hot.

Singer EF Iron
This is a great steam iron for cotton and cotton/poly blends. It uses a lot of water compared to the Sunbeam previously used because it actually makes a lot of steam. I use the spray bottle much less than with the Sunbeam. Also, this product rates very good at Consumer Reports and that is the main reason I took a chance on the Singer EF.It was hard to locate as none of the local stores carry the brand and all the on-line retailers were out of stock. I had to wait over one month just to place the order and so I did on Amazon.com. Please note that Amazon.com was $10 higher than Sears.com but the Sears.com website was not friendly. Sears.com made it impossible to place an order for the iron and so I ordered from Amazon.com. Glad I did as the iron arrived by Friday after the Sunday order was placed. The box was not damaged, the product worked well right out of the box.I have now used it for three ironings (that is 10 shirts X 3) and am very pleased with the product. If you have to iron, this is the iron to get. This iron makes lots of steam, has slick clothe action, it's lightweight, and comes in the really cool color of lavender. That is all.
