Stands up to a toddler!!
I bought this DVD player a year ago for a road trip with my then 2-year-old son. The controls were easy enough for him to figure out after being shown a couple of times and he loved watching movies in the car. The picture quality is nice and the screen is large enough for our purposes. It's also very lightweight and easy to tote around. This thing has beed dragged to grandma's and used at home constantly for the last year and it is still going strong. He doesn't throw it or anything, but he does open it without first pausing the DVD, or smack it because it isn't 'working' (meaning he doesn't know how to do whatever it is he wants it to do). This is a fabulous player at a good price and if it ever does break, I will absolutely buy another.

Great little player with speakers better than my $400 lap top!
I love dvds and wanted to find a reasonable player for myself. I chose this model based on reviews and I am not sorry. The item was reasonably priced, plays dvd movies and music cds and has met my expectations. The speakers do a respectable job if I watch a movie with someone else and I don't use my headphones. I think they(the speakers)provide better sound than the laptop I bought for many times the price of the player! If you aren't too picky about needing a huge screen, then this size player is fine for casual movie watching on the move or when you can't or won't use your laptop or tv/videoplayer to watch movies (in bed or in a chair or the yard). The battery life is kind of short (maybe around 2 hours) but it's not really a big deal. You get a plug to recharge it and a nice little remote to help you navigate the screen.

Great for toddler in the car
I have been planning to keep my currently 12 month old child rear-facing until at least age two if not longer. However, my child celebrates car rides with screaming and fierce sobbing. This was my last ditch effort to make it work. After a week of retraining her to enjoy the car by taking a 5 minute trip to a playground every day while watching her 'little TV,' I think we might actually be able to do it. The Coby 7009 works great for us and for our toddler. I've only viewed Baby Einstein movies on it, but the quality is fine. I mistakenly believed that this player would open up completely vertically, it will not. I felt like if it did and the case did also that it would be safer for in-vehicle use. That has been my only disappointment.I do not think that the Caselogic PDVS-4 7-Inch In-Car DVD Player Case is the best case for this DVD player even though it is suggested to sell with it. I'd try to find something more secure elsewhere.UPDATE: It's been about 2 years and this player is still working. However, it does have issues now. The cover for the DVD broke a long time ago. It must be closed in order to play the DVD- so we have to fit it in to the grooves properly each time we change the DVD and then seal it down with (Caselogic) case's velcro. Also there are DVDs that this player will not play including a brand new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD that plays just fine in our home DVD player. It won't play our personal recorded DVDs - it stalls and skips a lot. If you can't afford to pay more or you just need a temporary distraction for a baby this player will work. My daughter will now ride in the car without screaming without the help of the DVD. So, I'm bummed I need to upgrade, but not surprised and I'll probably put a new purchase off as long as I can.

Good price-quality and not a region free, but you can change it!
This is a good DVD, light weight and easy to use, even if the battery charge is short, around 3h.It is sold by many as being a Free Region DVD player, but it is not! After some research and many trials I figured out how to unlock it.Here the instructions:1. Turn on DVD, without a DVD and keep the tray closed2. Press the "Menu" button at the player and at the same time press 8888 with remote3. Press the "Display" button4. Region Code Menu shows up. Use the numeric keypad at remote to change your region - code number (0 - 6).5. Press the "Setup" button to exit.Good look and enjoy it!

Great product, great price
Honestly, I haven't had too much experience with portable DVD players, so I don't know what the ones that cost hundred of dollars offer that this one doesn't. But I have been extremely impressed and LOVING this DVD player since we got it. Perhaps it is less expensive because it doesn't come with a lot of accessories that other DVD players come with, but what it does come with (head phones, A/C charger, remote) were all that we needed, at least at the time (we wanted it on a 26-hour plane flight, and there are no car chargers on there anyway). The DVD player has gone through a LOT of viewings since we had it, incurred a LOT of abuse, being dropped, stepped on, (we have an often over-enthusiastic 19-month old.) There was a period of about a month where this DVD player was played maybe 2-4 hours a day, and it continued to work perfectly, the battery life remained excellent (it could easily go 2.5 hours on max volume.)I agree with other reviewers that the max volume is not great, but if the room is quiet, it's perfectly fine, and for noisier settings like a car or plane, the headphones will work perfectly to give off a very loud audio. (Although the quality of the included headphones is not the highest, I must admit.)The picture quality is also excellent. This DVD player has definitely been a life-saver for us, many times over! Now that I own and have truly tested this product over and over, I would definitely buy it again, at this price without batting an eyelash.

Warning - you get what you pay for!
I have owned 3 of these players and they all were no good within three months. Why 3? because I was trying to be cheap. I thought three at $50 was better than one at $150 - wrong. Here is what happens; they start out working beautifully, but if you use them (as I did) 6-10 hours a day they wear out fast. At first they would just intermittently shut themselves off. Then you would have to turn them off and on again to restart. this continues in frequency until you are doing it every 2 minutes - unbearable!
