It's summer and as part of Rose's βcoming out' she is to be presented at Buckingham Palace. The family are in London, preparing Grantham House for the busy social programme. Not one to miss such a grand occasion, Martha Levinson arrives from New York with Cora's recently disgraced brother Harold. Both outspoken and larger-than-life, they make quite an impression amongst certain members of London's high society. When the Crawleys are implicated in a scandal that threatens to engulf the monarchy, Robert will go to great lengths to protect the royal family, and his own.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS INDEED!
It has seemed so long since we have seen the last episode of Season 4. And we are still awaiting Season 5 on Blu-Ray DVD. It was quite refreshing to screen The Downton Abbey London Season Christmas Special 2013, the other evening -- especially since we are on the verge of the Holidays Season now for 2014. It is always a re-education to return to these classic masterpieces from the UK. It takes a while to find a vendor and product by which one can actually successfully view Region or Zone B DVDs, but it is worth the considerable effort and inconvenience of playing a game of trial and error with Amazon and its vendors.

Misleading
I thought I was purchasing a Christmas "episode" from the fourth season as was the case in an earlier season. This purchase was a Christmas PROMOTION for the Season 2 episodes UK version, which was included in the 3-year box set that I had already purchased!

Watch and ejoy
Excelent perfomances and story. The characters are fully developed. It's a soap opera but done on a grand scale. Watch and get hooked.

Why is this needed?
Since I just received Season 4 on Blu-ray, I noticed to my chagrin that this disc is also included in Season 4. So here's my take on this, and I may be wrong. The copy of The London Season has a "B" region code, meaning for Europe. I suspect this show hadn't been done yet when Season 4 concluded in Europe. PBS was able to catch it in time later on when doing the series 4 for the US and included it then. My take is that buyer beware when buying this disc, as it is already included in season 4. It is a great disc, just not one that's needed if you're getting the season 4.

It's Downton Abbey !!
I started watching my Downto Abbey DVDs and realised I was missing several of the Christmas episodes. In Series 1 the Christmas Episode was included. But not in the following series. Bit cheeky really making you buy another DVD so you can follow the whole plot line properly

Very engaging period drama, exploring the changing lives of the working, middle and upper classes in Britain
Bought this as a present for my mum who is a fan of Downton Abbey and was surprised to find myself enjoying the series as well. Engaging period drama, good performances overall by the cast and an interesting insight into people's lives during that time. Throughout the series, contrast and statements are made on the way of life for the working, middle and upper class divisions, as well as some often moving personal dramas between various characters.

Downton Abbey Hurrah!
At first I thought the author would never level up to 'Upstairs Downstairs'. In fact he has done so and I take off my hat to him. The production team was clearly knowledgeable enough to have consulted Mr Fellowes. The detail of dress and furnishings has not been surpassed by anybody in any production I have seen. This is not for the unobservant: it is an education for the educated! It is also eminently entertaining and certainly not to be missed.

Very enjoyable
This fills in some gaps in the story and just as good as the rest of the saga, you get lost in this enjoyable story line from start to finish.

Boring
I like this show however this special is rather dull as not a lot happens to keep you enthralled. It's like the writer has run out of ideas and you end up watching an hour and half of tedium, even the actors look bored! One to buy on offer only.
