pretty good start
This was a pretty good start to this new world. A very different take on vampires. I felt like Emily was unbelievably naive. And Trevor was pushing his feelings onto her. I donât really get Damien though. He is so closed off with his feelings.Damien is another that is frustrating. He clearly doesnât agree with his fathers ways. And he clearly thinks there is a better way but just doesnât know how to implement it.King Richard is a selfish man. Wanting his creation to take precedent above all other life. I mean everything is really about how the elite will survive. He is scaring the humans into believing they need the Elite. But in reality they donât. He could survive else where. Where as the elite need human blood to survive.Iâm definitely interested to see how things pan out in the next book.

Weak Lead/Weak Story
I recognize that romance novels are supposed to be unusual circumstances that brings two people together. Iâm not sure what it is about Emily that I donât like? Maybe itâs her naĂŻvetĂŠ or maybe sheâs just stupid. This is another example of an individual who doesnât think about her actions beyond the immediate moment. Sheâs selfish. Sheâs certainly not considering the other side of the story. And this manufactured connection between her and Damien is not believable. The twist? Not so much a twist. Itâs not compelling. Itâs another trope. Truthfully, the relationship (if you can call it that) between Emily and Damien is almost like an addiction. Unhealthy. He trusts her when he should not. Yet he does. And in the end? Her stupid actions lead us to where we are at the end of this book. Quite honestly? Iâm not compelled to go to the next.

Good book but....
I enjoyed this story, read it in a single day just to find out that the other two books in the series were not included in kindle unlimited. All I can figure is that the author tried to make the first book so good and leave it with such a cliff hanger that I would pay for the next two books just to satisfy my curiosity about what happens in the story. Not only will I not be paying for the next two but I'll never read anything else that he wrote.

Slagpaw
This book starts off slow, but in the end has you wanting more. I would recommend it. I do hope you enjoy it. Audible brings the characters to life. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That is for you to read and find out. Off to the next book in this series.

Moves Quickly
I liked this book. The story moves quickly and for the most part is free of over descriptions that tend to slow the story. The main character is likable. She does make some impulsive decisions that make you question her sense of self preservation, but her loyalty to those she loves is endearing. The male character is well written. He is conflicted and has made sacrifices, to the detriment of himself, based on convictions he has developed from hard experiences. The book leaves you just hoping they can figure each other out. It is hard for me to like the third member of the love triangle though, his recklessness makes me anxious as I read any scene in which he participates. I have enjoyed all of DS Murphy books. There are a few curse words, violence (it is a vampire book) and some steamy kissing.

Kingdom of blood
This novel was a page turner and I enjoyed it immensely. Compounds housed humans and the elite used the humans for blood lust. The king has gone too far and the humans with their paltry rations have had enough. A 17 year old is chosen to marry the kings son. Lots of twists and turns as the story revolved where you do not want to put it down. The girl eventually falls for the charming Prince but something isn't quite right. Reading bok 2

Unexpected, thrillingâI need more...
Emily lives in a compound with her ill mother and younger siblings, but the starvation makes her hunt outside in the forbidden areaâwhere poisonous ash can kill her. But the vampires are what makes this post-apocalyptic setting seem more thrilling than the Hunger Games as Emily must prepare for the choosing ceremony where the elite vampires pick their brides.Honestly, I devoured this book in one day because I couldn't put it down. For those who can't survive reading a vampire romance without any steamâyou may want to move along and skip this book. But if you're like me and want to see the relationships between human heroines and vampires develop slowly, Taste of Vampire is the one to go for. This story is amazing and easy to read when you're tired. It takes you away to the post-apocalyptic world where vampires and humans live in peace with a mutual agreement (which at some point stops seeming so mutual but more like "these humans are our livestock willingly").In other words, I can't wait to read the sequel.

You'll get a 'Taste' for this great book!
Love all of Derek's books and been (not so!) patiently waiting for the complete 'Taste' book to come out - and wasn't disappointed! Brilliant first book in his new series taking us to a world of vampire 'Elites', monster slugpaws, revenents, rebels & love in a compound protected from 'monsters', rebels and poisonous ash. Brilliant characters and plenty nail-biting moments - once you start reading this book you'll not want to put it down! Please don't make us wait too long for book 2! Needless to say, highly recommended along with any of Derek's excellent books!
