Helping to clarify description
I haven't installed these yet but after all these reviews im excited, but that wont be until springtime... they are well built, I at least can give that review.my main reason to write something here was to clarify that this price is for the PAIR of speakers , i know it sounds silly but no where in the description does it say PAIR and after a FEW conflicting answers from amazon I was able to confirm that this price was for 2 speakers.Shipping was lighting fast with prime as always so props for that as well ... looking forward to springtime!!***UPDATE*** now that its summer these bad boys are running 100w to each and sound amazing! have 4 of these running and to say its loud is an understatement ,super crisp on the top end with some good punch on the low ... highly highly recommendedMike

Built tough
I'm a big fan of Polk Audio in general. Was curious about the Ultra Marine speakers and decided to use them in an ice chest stereo. I was going to use cheaper speakers, but I like my sound too much. I used a 320 watt Power Acoustic amp and high grade wire. They sound good. The highs are fantastic, but the bass is great at mid volume (which is plenty loud) but distorts the mids and highs at higher volumes. I do believe this is because you can only get so much acoustic clarity out of an ice chest box. I'll say this though, my kids spilled juice on it pool side in the sun. It dried onto the speaker. I sprayed it with a light hose. It cleaned very well and has not changed the sound at all.

Polk Excellence
We just installed 4 MM651UM units in our 2008 Glastron DS215 along with a new ipod control Kenwood deck and they sound great! They replaced Glastron's original equipment Clarion units. The Polks have proven to be more efficient and lighter with overall better sound quality than the Clarion units. The speakers delivered crisp, well balanced sound that was not too bright and bassy enough to satisfy our teenagers all day on the lake. Also appreciated is the improved construction and protection over the stock units. Polk integrated a protective mesh over the tweeter which the Clarion's did not, resulting in 4 tweeter cones that had been kicked in over time.Overall very pleased with these new units. We look forward to great times at the lake!

Grill Tweeter Weak Design...Great sound though!
After much research, it seemed the Polk MM651 commonly came out on top for marine speakers. I have installed them on two of my boats and they sound amazing when properly amped. However, out of eight speakers four of them have broken at the tweeter/grille connection and start to buzz because the silver part of the grill separates from the black plastic housing that holds the tweeter. All of mine separated first on the grill arm that has the Polk logo on it, then the arm directly across from that. This same pattern of breaking occurred on four of eight speakers. I've had them installed for roughly a year on the first boat and lost one speaker. Then within two months lost three more speakers do to this same problem on pontoon boat. I have not contacted Polk as of yet, but will. I'm hoping Polk takes care of this or redesigns the grill mounted tweeter. Other than that, at the price, sound quality and output are unbeatable!***Update***: After one call to Polk reporting what happened with my speakers, they promptly sent me four brand new speakers with the newer model. I have not been able to install these yet, but I was very impressed by the way customer service handled this....can't ask for more than that! Thanks for standing behind your product Polk!

waste of
all four speakers melted within one year, the back of the speakers were literally melted. they were hooked up to a JL amp with 100 watts each. waste of money

Good Sound, but poor Quality
I was excited to get these sexy speakers into my boat, and at first they sounded great. I thought since the cone didn't have a tweeter stem, they'd last forever. WRONG. A few months into ownership, the silver arms holding the tweeter started to come apart and began to audibly rattle as you're playing music. Then about 5 months later, one of the speakers just died. No real reason, just died on me. I had extensively researched my speakers, and had much higher expectations from Polk Audio. Will probably go with infinity or something else in the future.

My boat is pretty loud inside at cruising speeds but these deliver clear
Simply phenomenal. I have 4 of these installed in a 21 foot bowrider and powered by a Rockford Fosgate R600/4D amplifier and they simply rock. My boat is pretty loud inside at cruising speeds but these deliver clear, full, musical sound at very high volume that easily overcomes the engine and wind noise onboard the boat. I'm truly amazed by how good these sound, considering the relatively low cost and the fact that at the end of the day they are just 6.5" coaxials. Good, good stuff.

Sounds Fantastic
I bought these for my hubby for Christmas and being that we are using them in our boat we hadn't hooked them up till just now. Took him no time at all (minor adjustments/easy installation) to hook them up to our new Clarion stereo (also purchased off amazon) The sound is incredible!!!! We're dancing in our driveway with our neighbors lol. The only reason why it recieved 4 stars is because we haven't taken them out on the lake yet but I am sure I will be upgrading my review to 5 stars. Originally we were considering an amp and a couple more speakers but to be honest with these we probably don't need to (we may still anyway just for the fun of it). Sounds Fantastic 5 stars if they weather well ;)
