Great Running/Walking Sneaker
After wearing these sneakers, I don’t think I will wear another type of sneaker. These sneakers are well constructed and stylish. The outer and mid sole are durable and don’t easily flex. The pig skin leather is premium. My foot feels like it is encapsulated in the shoe. I feel like it supports all parts of my foot. It definitely has great heel and ankle support. These sneakers have been a lifesaver for me after I broke the fifth metatarsal in my foot. After I was out of my walking boot, these were one of the few sneakers that I could wear. These sneakers absorb a lot of the pressure or impact walking on hard surfaces. You become very sensitive to that in the healing phases of a broken foot. Even with my fractured foot being swollen, I could still wear them in my regular shoe size without getting a wider size.I actually like the look of the 990v4 a little better but the 990v4 are cut slightly more narrower than the 990v5. Therefore I couldn’t wear the 990v4 after fracturing my foot. The only con can be the price. It’s a pricey sneaker but it is worth it.I don’t know if I would run in them for sprinting or some serious competition because they are slightly heavier because of the materials that make them so durable. You will probably want a much more lighter sneaker with synthetic material. But for most people this sneaker is worth the price.

Comfortable, sturdy, nice looking shoe
I bought the 990V5 (V5) to replace my 990V4 (V4). I really liked the V4, but I love the V5! The V5 is my new favorite work out shoe, and I currently use a few different brands.I use my V5's for walking outdoors, treadmill walking and running, and for using an elliptical. I do not use the V5's for running outdoors on hard streets or sidewalks. When I walk indoors or out, it's usually 4 to 5 miles. I spend 45 minutes to an hour on the elliptical. I am not that knowledgeable about the technical aspects of shoes, but I know what feels good to me. Also, I haven't worn these to work or any events that require a lot of standing, so i can't comment how these feel for standing on your feet for great lengths of time. The V5's fit very comfortably for me; they are snug, but not too snug as to be tight. Good room in the toe box and heel, but they don't slip around on my feet. The soles are also very comfortable - great, thick feeling cushion that feel solid while nicely absorbing the impact of my feet. The uppers are solid and strong, but still offer good flexibility. For walking outdoors or on a treadmill, the V5's are comfortable and deliver a confidence inspiring performance. The V5's feel a little heavier than my other brands of running shoes. But, the V5's feel more solid and stable, so I don't mind if they do weigh more. For elliptical use, the V5's feel pretty good for about 30 minutes, then one of my feet go numb. This is common for me with any shoe that I wear on the elliptical. Other elliptical users I know have the same problem. So, I don't blame my foot numbness on the shoe.I bought the black V5's and they're a pretty sharp looking shoe.I feel very good about buying the 990V5's!

Is there any other shoe?
Years ago, an Army recruiter, who wears 990's raved and extolled the superiority of the 990 shoe.I personally found my perfect shoe made by Redwing decades ago! They discontinued making them and I NO longer had any shoe that would easily satisfy and make my fussy feet happy! 990's are an expensive shoe, but on trusting this Army recruiter's advice I tried on several pair and purchased a pair of 990 shoes from Nordstrum, a New Balance dealer. Now I live three hours of driving away from a well stocked Nordstrum's store and knowing the exact size I need, I purchase online now. My first purchase was over ten years ago! Don't tell New Balance, but this 990 shoe is not expensive at all when you consider how extremely durable their construction is and how comfortable they make my feet (and my feet are very fussy about being comfy plus!) The longevity of their no wear out is beyond belief. (...especially, over time, walking in other shoes, the outside heals wear away, so the outside heal is missing over time and my feet walk at an slanted angle... not good!) Over time, I now have quite an investment in the 990 shoes. Four pair of shoes. White, Gray, Black and Blue. For the Army recruiter and I... before you buy your next shoe, I very strongly encourage you to try on just one pair of 990 New Balance shoes at well stocked Nordstrum's before buying another 'not the most-comfy' shoe made. Your feet deserve a pair 990 shoes! Please add your response below this review of your 990's shoe fitting experience! Thank you, Ronny Max Davis.

The best running shoe
This shoe is ideal if you have an odd size foot. I have very wide feet. It is super good cushioning for long distance running. i do wish the outer sole was a little more durable. I roll my foot and tend to wear out the corner of the heel fast when my miles are on pavement. I have been using this same model for about 15 years. I usually get a new pair about every 6 months to have fresh heel cushion, so I have purchased about 30 pairs. I use the old ones for mud runs or as a casual shoe.

If the shoe fits
Shoes were made well. The size was accurate. They look nice. (My husband’s words…he said it all in three short sentences!)
