Impressive features & worry-free Wi-Fi
I can get over 1 Gbps Wi-Fi speeds with this router, which is pretty much the limit of my Internet connection. So this router is plenty for my needs and an absolute bargain at the $70 sale price I bought it for. The R6300 does a great job of managing both the 2.4GHz N and 5Ghz N/AC bands and providing claimed bandwidth for both. In fact, I have exceeded the rated 450 Mbps speed for the 2.4GHz N band on occasion. Older N and newer AC devices connect with no problems. Also no problems with older "draft N" devices on the 5GHz band. I'm connecting 6 wireless and 4 wired devices simultaneously and this router hasn't hiccupped once. The setup UI is pretty good, but not as slick as some other brands such as Belkin and Linksys. Auto configuration worked flawlessly out of the box but only the 2.4GHz N band is enabled by default which is kind of weird. Firmware updates were detected immediately and installed easily. My only complaints about the UI are the QoS rules which are not intuitive at all. But the help screens are pretty good and it was easy to figure out. I set up QoS rules so that my son's gaming and streaming didn't bog down my wife's work PC and so far it has worked out well. Also, the UI doesn't always detect and report connected devices correctly so you sometimes have to enter them in manually for QoS, port forwarding, etc. Devices connected downstream through a switch, for example, will be invisible to the router unless they are actively transmitting. This is pretty typical for routers like this and not a big deal. Even Apple's AirPort doesn't always detect connected devices! :) Typical users won't have any problems at all and power users will find most of the advanced setup tools they need. Port management and firewall settings are fairly basic, however, so if you're a REAL power user you might want to consider a router with open-source firmware. The USB ports are nice for sharing a printer, but you have to install Netgear's software on every device that wants to use the printer. The software is clunky and old-school but it does work. My only issue is that the software does not always "release" the printer when you're done printing so other devices are locked out. First installing the software does not always find the printer which means you have to close and re-open a couple of times to get it to work. Tip: Install the shared printer's drivers before installing Netgear's printer sharing software. Also download the software from Netgear's website instead of using the CD-ROM.I haven't used the router's USB ports for NAS functions yet, but from what I've read that works more seamlessly than the shared printer function. Nice to see USB 3.0 in this model too, which should work great for a USB 3.0 portable drive. The setup tools in the UI look to be pretty comprehensive for NAS which is better than the shared printer tools which are very basic.I'd definitely buy this router again. For the price, it's hard to beat the features you get and so far the wireless and wired routing functions have been flawless. 3 months in and zero downtime...

Awesome
This is a great router. It replaced an older Netgear router that was in the process of dying, and the change was amazing. If you're on the fence, go ahead and get it.This router is EASY to set up. I ran through the guide quickly enough, changed the SSIS and access paskeys, and was off and running. the signal is strong and reliable, and covers the house quite well, and the signal extends outside onto the deck and yard nicely enough. The router comes with a family protection feature that allows you to set up an account that will check and filter every request going through the router, both on WiFi and through the ethernet. Nothing is fool proof, but it provides a great layer of protection for our family. We have a "Micro-Cell" signal booster from AT&T. We connected it to a port on the router's ethernet, and it receives a strong, reliable connection to the internet. I've connected an external hard drive to a USB port, which makes the drive available on our network, which is handy when we're at home. Its great having a shared drive for pictures, songs, documents and other files we like to share. I haven't used the "cloud" feature, but I'm planning on getting a bigger drive and hooking that up as well. I doubt it will be too difficult, but I can't speak to that yet.In addition to the MicroCell, I typically have 2 computers wired on the Ethernet, 1-3 laptops (including work laptops connecting through VPN - without difficuty), 2 kindle fire's, a windows tablet, a windows phone and an android tablet and phone. Everything can be connected at once, and it works just fine. We've had study groups over, and they connect their phones, tablets, and computers to the Wi-Fi as well. I'm not sure how many concurrent connections it handles, but we haven't capped out yet, so it seems it is more than 10 or 12.I have a 'normal' sized 3-bedroom split-entry house, and this router adequately covers the house, although I did get a signal booster to increase the speed in the back bedroom. The bedroom, however, is on a different floor, and the signal travels through not only the floor, but the stairs and a couple of walls. It makes it, but with the signal booster at the top of the steps, there's improved bandwidth in that back corner. I'm sure if I centered the router better in the house, I wouldn't need it, but the way its laid out, putting it in the middle would be awkward, so its off to one side.I'm VERY glad I picked up this router, and I heartily recommend it.

2 year review from computer technician
I 100% recommend this product for the people who need it. Most people could get away with the 300 or 600 model routers. This machine is great though. Range, ease of use, security, speed, and features are all great. It even has parental controls which work well. The only issue that people may face is range if you have a huge house or difficult materials. This reaches all 3000 square feet of my house and workshop plus most of my town lot. my neighbour 1 block away actually gets on my wifi every once in a while from his house (it is almost direct line of sight)If you have stone walls, etc, you may need a repeater or another access point but otherwise this should serve all of your needs if it is positioned correctly (remember that a wall is thicker on an angle than is is in a straight line, so is a floor so you want to position it so it can go straight through most walls, not along the full length of it).Our computer shop recommends netgear regularly because they are the lowest price brand that is reliable (D link should be avoided whenever possible. their consumer products are not up to snuff). This is a higher end product that will suit streaming, gaming, etc. The speeds will really come into play if you are transferring files between computer on the same network in which case it will be blazingly fast. I copied a full feature length movie in HD in about 30 seconds between my computers (the computer was the limiting factor).Great product, attractive, functional, good price.
