Works nicely as expected and flawlessly with USB <--> RS/232 Serial Converters
The Diablo cable performs, wraps and packs into suitcases just as nicely as my Cisco Console Cable RJ45-to-DB9 cables but for half the price and it's impossible to discern a performance or compatibility difference.Recently though, I shed a few pounds by finally IBM THINKPAD 600X laptop by adopting USB/RS-232 serial converters. The TRENDnet USB to RS-232 Serial Converter TU-S9 (White) and Prolific Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Chipset) perform nicely and perfectly with this cable. The Diablo cable flexes without cracking or breaking and has never hiccuped or caused an issue that didn't already exist and occurred with an OEM Cisco or Hewlett Packard con cable.I suspect Diablo might make Cisco's cables or they both buy their con cables from the same manufacturer. If I need Cialis length, I'll double my stretch with Diablo Cable DB9 Female to RJ45 Female Console Adapter for Cisco CAB-9AS-FDTE and another console cable if their con port has enough voltage for the extended length (Console cable lengths are officially constrained by the bps speed and 9,600 baud is supported to 15ft. Most devices manufactured in the last 20 years that I've seen will reach double that but don't be surprised if doubling your cable doesn't work or behaves unexpectedly. If you have rare occasions requiring a chasm of distance between you and the con port, I can affirm that using a decent USB booster cable, to the USB adapter to Con cable works on every single rare occasion since the console cable stays within supported length but the USB cable is the bull whip bridge.( PC --> USB 2.0 Active Extension / Repeater Cable A Male to A Female, 10 Meters (32.8FT) --> Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Chipset) PL-2303 -->(item being sold) Diablo Console Cable -->Console port 9,600,8,N,1Do that enough times and you won't need a radio to talk to aliens on other planets.I'm late to the game by embracing USB/RS-232 but I also support legacy climate control and fire suppression systems that are so old the manufacturers no longer exist like Bendix and being blamed for frying their elderly control board just because they noticed I'm using USB instead of an old Serial port isn't an accusation I can easily dispel when they're clearly too stubborn to upgrade and could be eager to blame anyone into providing a "damage replacement".I was honestly afraid to use anything but old fashioned 2400 bps Serial on those old systems because I wasn't sure if a USB adapter could actually damage a board made in the late 80's.

You can't go wrong with these for $1 and free shipping
$1.00 with free shipping? I was of course skeptical, since Amazon shared that I previously bought a similar item for ~$7.00/each This time I wasn't in a hurry and it ended up only taking 5 days for the shipper to get them to me. So, high marks from me for that. No issues with using them, I plugged them into two (2) different Cisco devices in my home lab, a ASA 5505 and a 3750 switch and had full connectivity. To be honest, had these not worked...I'm only out 2 bucks for 2 cables. But they did work...I should have bought a few extra....yea right, its $1 with free shipping, I can do that now.

It's a console cable
...not much I can say about a console cable. This one works, is pretty much identical to standard Cisco console cables. Worked perfectly with Juniper firewalls, Cisco switches, and some NetApp devices that I have. This worked perfectly with the USB to DB9 adapter that I have as well, although I did use it mostly plugging straight into a serial port. If you are in need of a console cable, this one works and was one of the cheaper options that I found on Amazon.

A very solid, reliable cable
It just works with my pluggable USB-to-serial adapter. I do alot of work with Oracle-Sun T-series and X-series ILOMs (integrated lights out management) servers and I couldn't set them up without this. Setting up the serial port ILOM interface lets me use out-of-band management on the network admin port and remotely administer the servers from 500 miles away. It works with both the screen command and coolTerm on my MacBook Pro and it's bulletproof.

Does The Work of a Cable...
Not much to review here; it's a cable. If you do any work at all in IT, specifically networking, you have 20 of these...until you need one. Then, you can't find it, and order one. When that comes in, you have 21 of them. I had a Catalyst switch I needed to log into, and a deep-dive into the boxes in my attic yielded nothing, so I got one of these. Does the job perfectly which, I suppose, is at once the least & the most you can ask of a product like this one. If you need a console cable, you've found it. Get it.
