Didnt Work - TWICE ... but 3rd time lucky
Like many people here, the unit was dead on arrival: It appears to charge when it is plugged in (very faint white light present) but there is no power to the keyboard & no bluetooth signal to the tablet (S/ Pro 2). When it is unplugged after several hours charging it switches off and will not switch back on until plugged back into the the USB charge cable. very disappointing. Have ordered a replacement. Here is hoping the original was just a faulty unit and it works second time around.Update: The replacement arrived and it too was faulty. This time it simply did not charge or turn on whatsoever. I asked the vendor to verify a replacement was working before sending it out for a third time but they could not as the stock is held by Amazon who will also not verify that it works. Poor experience all round. AVOID.Finally gave in and ordered it a third time as I noticed Amazon saying very few left. This time it worked out of the box and now my Surface Pro2 Type Keyboard is no longer just an expensive mouse mat !

Great option for making the type cover usable when not directly connected.
Great option to have if you want to type in your lap or not directly connected to the Surface itself. Battery life could be better and sometimes I forget to turn it off or it gets bumped in the bag and gets turned on. Good that it can be used while charging though. Not all bluetooth devices can do that.

The idea is good
Had three of these - first one arrived not working, the 2nd lasted a year before the battery gave up, although not used that much. Now I hope the third will last a bit longer. I have it only because I at times like to be able to detach the typecover when working. The disable of the touchpad if a mouse is connected is not supported.

Works for me
I've been using this product for about a week with my Surface Pro. Some pointers if you get this product.- The device will be completely discharged when you get it. It will take at least several hours to charge them, so plug in the connector and leave it alone. Trust me, it will appear to be a dud, it won't pair and the status LED will be out regardless of what you do even with it connected to the charger. In time, the LED will indicate that the adapter is charging.- I have a power keyboard, but at least from the status LEDs it appears that it does not charge the keyboard adapter.- The adapter will have to be paired (again) if you use it on another device. Some issues to take note of:- The touchpad will not be a precision touchpad when using the adapter. Scrolling with two fingers and right clicking with two fingers works, but nothing else does. In addition you will need to jump into mouse settings and adjust the scroll wheel settings to scroll one line for each roll.- It appears this does work with the Surface Pro 3 keyboard, but for whatever reason the touchpad is even worse. I cannot get two finger scrolling or right click to work there.- Expect about several hours of battery life. I been using mine for the past several hours and it has not indicated that the battery is low, but others report roughly a days worth of battery.Even with the shortcomings I find this a nice to have. Using this and a mini-display driver I have a desktop workstation for about $30 bucks. While the dock offers more, I find I don't really need it. In addition I have connected the Surface Pro up to the TV and used the keyboard with the adapter.

Just understand what you are getting into
I'm only rating this two stars because as more recent reviews also indicate, these are old, new stock with discharged batteries. I've ordered two. The first one would not charge, no indicator light came on, even after 24 hours so I returned it. My second one is still charging after 24 hours. The indicator light came on red, indicating it was discharged. I'm going to keep charging it for another day or so, then return it and try again. I have a first generation Surface Pro, and I would like this accessory for it. Since it is Prime and returning it is easy, I'll keep rolling the dice. It used to retail for $79, so $19 is a good price point. I just wish they would work!

Tried two, neither worked (designed for older surface models
UPDATE: Microsoft techs indicate that this is a long-discontinued product that will not work with SP3 and SP4 typecovers. It was designed for the original surface and surface 2 (+pro) models. The keyboard connections for those older devices are different (according to MS).Additionally, these bluetooth devices are prone to failure because they've been sitting on shelves for many years (again, the words of the MS tech I spoke with).I really wish this worked since it's a great idea, small, light, and very well designed (apparently). But it doesn't work. I got two and they were both DOA... neither would light up when plugged in to a charger with the provided OEM cable. I'm disappointed.

Never worked / never powered up or charged
**DON'T BUY THIS ITEM** I ordered this item in March 2016, couldn't turn it on from day one. NOT SURE IF THIS WAS REFURBISHED OR USED, but it doesn't work. The adapter never charged (no light indicator). The power button felt as if it was replaced (very loose connection). I like the surface, but I'm not happy with the constantly changing accessories. I have a Surface Pro 2. In less than 2 years, I can't find none of the accessories on the Microsoft store. I took a chance on this seller, and now I'm beyond my 30 day return policy. :-(

This is a great travel adapter
I travel about 40 weeks a year, so this adapter saves me from needing a separate keyboard and mouse to drive remote presentations from the Surface Pro, as well as allows me to have a nice Bluetooth remote in the evening by attaching the Surface Pro to the hotel TV. Works perfectly, small and light, plus it recharges using the same charger as my phone, so nothing extra to carry in the bag.
