Almost worthless, unless you need a heavy object to hold your door.
I have been a Pediatrician for over 25 years and in the past have found Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics to be an excellent resource. However, the current format has minimum information for each subject and then refers you to their internet site for the complete topic. I find it much more relaxing and less distracting to study from written text. If I had wanted an online textbook I would have purchased that instead.

Don't buy this book!!
What a joke!I bought my first Nelson in 1975 and have every edition since. All of them had reference sections for normal values. This edition refers you to a website. What is the point of having a book that refers you to the net. This will be the last Nelson's I buy.

a classic
its format, table contents have not changed over the year, that should be my 3,4 th book over the year, the last one I bought was in 1990. Now becoming a grand parent I decide to refresh my knowledge that was the reason to buy it. Contents are new in the genetic and molecular biology field. I want to learn more about the issue of food allergy but the content was limited. I have to look elsewhere. For other topics I cannot comment yet. May be the Uptodate software provides more real time knowledge. But the textbook serves the purpose of providing core knowledge. Textbook format may need to change with the times.

This is the classic textbook
Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics is the main textbook pediatricians and residents read. It's difficult to criticise the wealth of information it presents; clearly the book is a tremendous resource. My only complaint is its incredible bulk. It is a very difficult book to carry around and read conveniently. The Kindle version takes care of that to some extent but for those of us who like to score and underline and annotate and, in short, personalize our books the Kindle provides an insubstantial experience. I had one colleague in residency who actually broke his textbook open and divided it into several smaller books that were more portable and conducive to learning from. Surely it can't be that hard to publish the text as two volumes? The publishers of Harrison's Principle of Internal Medicine have been doing it for years.

Five Stars
It would be better to be in 2 volumes, because only one is too big, and some articles are shortened

I would recommend buying the actual text if you want any type ...
This kindle version is "condensed" , referring the reader to the Internet for MANY of the topics in this text. Half the time the link to the online resource doesn't even work. No where in the description does it specify this . I would recommend buying the actual text if you want any type of substance for your money. For $130 I would have expected higher quality.

Great textbook, excellent reference
Great textbook, excellent reference. But in this day and age of technology, not worth getting the physical book. Get the ebook instead so that you can easily transport it around from home to hospital/clinic and anywhere else. Great book when I use it. But 90% of the time it ends up collecting dust on my bookshelf while I end up using Uptodate on my computer or Medscape on my phone instead.

Kindle version - no Expert Consult
Despite the title saying expert consult and the product description including information on how good the online features are the kindle edition does not actually come with Expert consult. This was one of my main reasons for buying the text, as I already have library access to a copy without the online features.

A bit annoying. The electronic version of the book is excellent
Note that the textbook is not fully comprehensive, some sections finish in the book with the reference to see online version for full details/complete section. A bit annoying. The electronic version of the book is excellent. Sometimes you just want to be able to read a real book and not a computer.
