Yukon Gear & Axle(SK SSF9.75) Super Carrier Shim Kit for Ford 9.75 Differential

I didn't know these were a thing. After doing some research and wanting to change the rear gears in my Chevelle, I knew I would need a crush sleeve. As I hate crush sleeves with a passion, I wanted to see options. This eliminator kit allows you to take your old sleeve, measure it, and then use shims to match the appropriate depth. After doing so, just bolt in the pinion and you are done (as long as there is no play). This makes it super easy to swap out in the future as well. No more trying to get 300ft-lbs of pressure on the pinion to crush the sleeve.

I broke the factory (cast) carrier shim during install so I ordered this. It worked perfect and I was able to get the exact thickness needed with plenty of shims left over.

Well-made crush washer eliminator but did not work on my very early 9" ford. Not sure why but even with all the shims installed I still had about an eighth of an inch of play. Consulted with Yukon and I was installing correctly. Had to switch back to crush washer. Hopes of not having to deal with the crush washer and the huge amount of force required to set it was defeated.

The interlocking design and many shim sizes allow a perfect setup. The interlock prevents shim damage during installation by keeping the shims aligned. These shim packs match the diameter of the bearing races perfectly. This is important with the Chevy 10 bolt as the support lands are very thin. The shims that came with my rebuild kit were plain flat and under size, resulting in unstable carrier pre-load, and shim damage. If your rebuild kit came with plain flat under size shims, do yourself a favor and buy this kit! You will need a curved installation tool also.

This is an awesome way to set pinion depth. Directions for shimming rather than using a crush washer were slim, but once I figured out the concept everything went smoothly. This will make most future maintenance tasks a breeze as there will be no need to replace a crush washer.
