Good idea, poor implementation
ZTM is close to a perfect mouse. Good hand feel, great placement of buttons, scroll wheel at the top, where it should be. Too bad such a good idea was implemented so cheaply. To improve, it will need a soft pad to support hand side; the top wheel should be rotated by 90 degrees, to move horizontally. My unit does not sit flat on mouse pad, because the teflon pads are way too small for the mouse base. The thin usb cable looks like another cost-saving measure.Overall, a good idea, but manufacturing cut too many corners to make it a winner.

Zero Tension Mouse - It Really Works!
I started having wrist pain a couple of years ago. When I got the Zero Tension Mouse, the pain went away. After a pain-free year, the "new economy" kicked in and I started working more from home, without my beloved mouse. The pain came back. Even though it is a bit bulky, I now carry it back and forth between home and work because it keeps me pain free. This mouse does take some getting used to - tracking is awkward at first. For detailed work (photo editing, etc), I set the mouse tracking speed slower than usual to make up for this, which makes it easier to make small motions with the pointer. The ZTM uses two basic principles:1. The weight of your hand and forearm rest on the flat base, so you can relax all the muscles in your shoulder, arm, and hand (it also helps reduce shoulder and neck pain).2. Your hand is in a "neutral" position when using the mouse, so all the bones, muscles, and nerves are where they want to be, not forced to twist or bend to hold the mouse. You do not "grip" the mouse, your hand just rests on the base and your fingers fall into position by the two buttons and the scroll wheel, ready to go when you need to use them, but completely relaxed when not in use.Pros:-Makes the pain go away-Really, really makes the pain go away-Completely plug&play (for me anyway - worked right out of the box)-Durable (1 year +, and good as new)Cons:-Big, bulky, looks like it came from a medical supply house-Tracking is awkward at first-Officemates can't make heads or tales of it (some don't recognize it as a mouse), so they have trouble using your computer (not sure this is a negative).Notes:-It comes in different sizes, so be sure to order the right one-Can be found for less $$ at other websites

Nice while it lasted
I bought this mouse to relieve wrist and elbow stress from intensive things like gaming. It does take some getting used to as one is using more shoulder and less wrist, but it was working for me. It actually worked better for gaming than for document editing. Its a little odd in that your middle finger is used to right click and your thumb controls the wheel (which is not necessarily recognized as the middle button). There are no drivers which makes it easy, but not customizable.I would give it 4-stars for ergonomics. Unfortunately it died in 3 weeks. Mouse buttons ceased to function (but I could move the cursor...ooo). Not acceptable quality for me.

Why mess up what was a very good product?
I had used the Zero Tension mouse until 2 years ago when it simply came apart from usage. It was an excellent tool. I ordered the another one this past 1-1/2 weeks because of shoulder pain. It arrived and I was at first quite happy, until....... I discovered the DPI button located to the left of the wheel, (a new feature/bug) right where my thumb rests. For those wondering what DPI is, it means DOTS PER INCH. The setting is slow to fast. This mouse is poorly thought out.I do not recommend this Zero Tension mouse to anyone. Poor product engineering.Your thumb will trigger the DPI because it is, as stated above, right under your thumb and if you are simply working to playing a game it is just TOO, TOO, TOO easy to press. In gaming you go from super fast mouse response to molasses suddenly. Working, the mouse suddenly drags across the screen. The only fix you have available is to make sure your thumb rests on the very sharp edge of the mouse, yes, it is a SHARP edge of molded plastic. So it is uncomfortable and inconvenient to use this mouse. In a word/phrase - this mouse now sucks.

At first it was tempting to grip it like a joystick
In my opinion, this mouse lives up to the hype. At first it was tempting to grip it like a joystick, out of habit, but it soon became apparent that one doesn't really need to. It actually feels kind of weird and wrong to grip it, as the shape of the mouse is meant to be functional without having to grab. The unit cradles the hand in such a way that the fingers can lie in a relaxed, natural slight curl. With the main axis of the wrist now perpendicular to the work surface, the wrist automatically goes to its straightest, most comfortable position without the user having to think about it. It has a surprising lighter-than-air feel, literally feeling like you're pushing a small block of styrofoam. It's more like you're just moving your hand, rather than moving a mouse. One important point is getting your work surface at the optimum level (forearm parallel to mousing surface), as having to reach upwards or downwards for the mouse quickly minimizes the benefits. I only give it 4 stars because it is only shaped for the right hand, and I would like the option to switch hands. I'm not sure if there is a left-handed version. But even if there is, it would be better if the same mouse could accommodate either hand. They could make it a little bigger, and mirrored the cradling shape on both sides.
