DELL S S2340L 23-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor

I got back into PC gaming and art last year. So when I got my PC, I settle with a solid monitor from ASUS. Went with it because it is highly use by the fighting game community that I play in. But being the videophile that I am. I wasn't happy with the colors and viewing angles that most consumer TN LCD panels offers. I needed quality that's on par with Plasma. Asked around, I was led to the beautiful world of IPS displays. This review will be mostly about gaming.The first game I tested was Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown on the 360 first, and then PS3. Virtua Fighter is well know for it's frame heavy game. So the first thing I tested was Akira's 1 frame knee. On my first try, I got the knee to comeout. Got it six times in a row. Not my main, but I understand the method on doing it. Not an easy move to pull off. Next, was the most important method in VF, Fuzzy guard. In VF5:FS You only could fuzzy guard at -5(While in the previous version it was at -6) So I set the CPU to mix up between a throw and mid attack. I did Akira's 3P(Leaves him at -5)And fuzzy. Again, didn't notice any lag while doing it. I was off a few times due to me being rusty. But 8/10 ain't bad without warming up :)Every character that has a hit throw like El Blaze, Lei Fei, Jean, Jeff and Wolf for example. I had a lot of success pulling them off, especially with my main El Blaze. I was 10/10 on ALL his hit throws, and mine you, they all have different timing. I tested other fighters as well. Especially SFIV:AE The first thing I do is go for 1Frame links with the characters I play. So, I go with Balrog and see if I could do his LP, LP, LK, EX Uppercut, LP, LK, HP Heabutt- Into Ultra. And on my first shot I got it. Next, I went with Ryu and see if I can land my favorite "OKI" combo. LP, LP, MP, HK. The timing is strange for this link, because the rhythm changes after MP, it slows down a little. Very different from other links. And again, I got it on my first try. Didn't notice any lag.Now that I got the fighters out of the way, I wanted see how the blacks look on this display, something I was very curious about. I already calibrated the set using the Nivida control panel and a few tweaking in the set. BTW, a very intuitive menu. SO the first game I put is Batman, AA on the PC. And wow, right off he bat(no pun intended)the colors, skin tones and blacks looks AMAZING No light bleeding at all. Not perfect like a Plasma, but almost on par. I was shock how crisp the image looks(An edge over a plasma set)I move my head from side to side to see if the image washes away like my previous monitor...Nope, no change of image. Just shrugging my shoulders I would lose detail on my previous monitor. Not on this one.Next was the PC version of Dust and DarkSiders...All I have to say is :O those colors..No heavy saturation, and with my previous SweetFX settings, both games look straight out of a glossy Comic-book, breath taking. I could go on, but ya get the point, this set is worth it.

It does the job. I needed a new screen to use with my macbook, and this works fine. It just seems a bit flimsy, which is OK, since it just sits on my desktop. But the price was right, and it works. I'll review again if it breaks, since I have not had it that long. But it does what it needs to do.

Amazing monitor by Dell. I am ust in love with this no bezel having monitor that takes gaming into whole new level. While it is lite and supports HDMI port it is probably one of the best looking monitors in the marked. I highly recommend this to anyone that is looking to create a triple monitor setup for gaming. For office work, one should be more than enough )))

The plastic of the base is broken, and it does not have an HDMI cable, I had to buy one, just an unusable VGA cable.

The first time I opened Photoshop on the computer hooked up to this monitor it told me the monitor was defective and should be returned. The main reason I bought this monitor was to work with Photoshop and Lightroom. While LR seems OK with the monitor, the colors in PS are off. Both programs render Black and White as sepia instead of crisp white, though in LR it's only in the preview pane.If you do serious photography work consider another monitor.

It's not ultra high-res or needlessly big, but it's a keeper. There's a really tiny bevel around the screen and the IPS technology makes the colors just "pop" (to use an annoying expression that has plagued me as a designer). The monitor is light and bright and does its job well. I have to hand it to Dell, a company whose products have never much impressed me in the past. It turns out they make good monitors. I ended up buying another one, for my studio. Good job, Dell!

I've owned this monitor for 8 months. Recently it started showing columns of horizontal lines that make reading text impossible. I'm on day three of trying to work with Dell to get a warranty replacement. These monitors do not have a Service Tag number so you can't use the Dell website to get service. When you call, the automates phone system asks for the Service Tag number. I've been on the phone for over 40 minutes, mostly on hold, before their system disconnected me, and before the issue could be resolved. Good luck finding out how to handle a warranty repair on their website.. I have heard that Dell once had good customer service but my experience indicates otherwise. I simply can't recommend Dell based on their customer service.

There is a similar model to this, almost identical, but without hdmi input. that model is unfortunately cheaper (~$20) but for those of us who like the convenience of no adapters and one cable for video and audio, this is the model. The bezel is brilliant, hardly half an inch. The glass display can get some reflections/glares, but I still prefer it over a matte. Also for anyone with older hookups, there is also a vga port, which the monitor seems to prefer as primary input, but the selection for inputs is automatic (if you have hdmi w/o vga in, then hdmi; and vice versa).
