Very nice mount, but one quirk
This is a very smartly designed vent mount, and I got one for each of our two cars. I ordered them because they seemed they would be a lot less obtrusive and quicker to use than units with clamps, etc. It is indeed extremely quick and simple to mount to the vent: a quick push to insert, and then simply place the phone on it to mount. The amount of magnetic force is just right to hold the phone securely (iPhone 6 in a Lifeproof case with the rectangular magnet piece inside the case), yet permit the phone to be pulled off without pulling the mount out of the vent. The mount itself is thoughtfully designed in that the rubber "cone" that is inserted in the vent has two thickness of a slot to accommodate thicker or thinner vent louvers, depending on the orientation it is inserted. I marked a "top" with a small dot of red nail polish so that I instantly know the right way to insert without fumbling around. Once in, it has been secure with the weight of the phone on it, yet still easy enough to pull out.The only issue I have with this mount, and the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars, is that for one of our cars, the vents have a pronounced barrel shape to them, meaning that the attitude of the attached phone is quite sensitive to the up-down rotation of the vent. When i place the mount in the vent and attach the phone, the vent rotates down, causing the phone to face downward. If I place the mount in the lowest possible vent, so that further downward rotation is not possible, the barrel shape to the vent causes the mount to face downward and therefore the mounted phone to point too far downward to see well and use. The workaround has been to insert a small piece of thin but still cardboard (I used a tag from a pair of CK jeans, about 2" by 4" and very stiff) between the bottom of the vent barrel and the vent surround, and this serves as an immobile little shelf to support the bottom of the phone and prevent downward rotation of the vent barrel. The other car does not have this issue, as its vents, while also rotating downward (I think they all do), have a vent face that is much flatter, so if I place the mount in the lowest louvers, it holds the phone in the right position. So I like this mount, but for the car with the barrel shape vents, I might need to try the CD-slot version of this mount.

A magnetic personality lets you get a "GRIP" on your call phone !
I recently bought and 'installed' this in my '13 BMW; I've tried several mounts to solve the problem of leaving my HTC M8 in the front cubby, the side door pocket or my pants/jacket pocket ... and keep it convenient enough even though I am driving totally hands-free and voice activated. I just want to have a place to keep the phone secure and nearby - easy to grab and go when I leave the car.Magnets have gotten very powerful but I was skeptical about this small device to adequately grip my somewhat heavy HTC M8 ... Plus I have it wrapped in a protective case - not a thick, clunky one, but a case nonetheless!WOW am I pleasantly surprised! The small part that you attach to your car's AV vent has some protective rubberized coating and will accommodate thick or thin vent louvers. On my BMW the louvers are thin and the slots slide over them without imposing any undue stress. And I placed the large metal plate inside the silicone/plastic phone jacket. It comes with a metal disk that can be glued to the outside of the case but I didn't find that necessary. The phone is firmly drawn to the round holder and feels very secure - I haven't driven over any pot-holed roads but I suspect the phone will remain firmly gripped. Now there are a couple of notes to pay attention to:1. The holder, with phone attached, will obstruct the vent it's attached to. And the adjust-ability of that specific vent is limited slightly by the prongs the holder has. So you might want to look for a vent and a location on that vent that is more suitable than another.2. My HTC M8 uses a magnetic sensor to activate what they call the "dot-view" case. That changes the display to allow the user to read some phone display information with that special care in place. Mine doesn't have that case but the display did change when the magnet was sensed. All I had to do was 'disable' dot-view in my settings menu to prevent that from happening.Net net - At this time I'm very happy with the functionality of this magnetic car mount!!

Second Purchase. Really like it this time, but have two issues.
I really like this thing! When I got my new car it was the perfect device mount out there for me. I purchased after my best friend recommended it to me last year, I have purchased before but in my previous vehicle it was too heavy for my vents and was unusable. BUT in my new car its great! It's small enough to be discreet but I do have some issues with the product. My first being it's size: while yes it is small the mount is actually too big to fit into the vent that I originally chose to use, but I've settled on another vent and it works just fine. Another issue I have is with the metal plates it comes with. There are only two circle plates that have adhesive on them so my only other option is a rectangular square of metal just sliding round inside my case scratching my otherwise perfect iphone. I don't understand why all the metal plates didn't come with adhesive already applied seeing as everyone I know with this thing doesn't use the ones without the adhesive so their phones do not get damaged.Otherwise, this is a great product and I find it very helpful for keeping my phone out of my hand and in one place when I'm driving. I also use it alot when I need my GPS as it is out of the way but within sight for following directions

Literally every other one I've bought my phone slides off them. Took me ages to find a second one for my husbands car. Highly reccomend

Not good for a big phone or big case
Only the round magnets have an adhesive backing, the rectangular do not which makes it very difficult to attach them to any phone or case securely. The magnets do not work at all if you have a heavy duty case like an otterbox.Even without my case on, the magnets barely held my Samsung Note to the clip.
