Nice knife from Brazil
I'd heard good things about the Mundial 5100 series, so when I saw this 6" chef's knife for less than $20, I grabbed one. The 5100 series is made in the style of traditional German knives -- for example, the Wusthof Classic series. In comparison to the Wusthofs I own, this Mundial knife is distinctly beefier, but not as perfect in finishing. The blade of the Mundial is thicker than the blade of my Wusthof Classic 7" Chef's Knife; the Mundial weighs 210g, while the (slightly longer) Wusthof weighs 170g. The joints between the black plastic handle and the steel bolster are not as "seamless" on the Mundial as on my Wusthof knives, and there is more asymmetry between the right and left sides of the handle on the Mundial than on my Wusthofs. For the sake of comparison, if I rate my Wusthofs 9.5-10 in quality of finishing, this Mundial would rate about 8.5. The Mundial is still a nice knife... it is better made than Chinese knives made in the German style that I have seen. Considering that the Wusthof 6" Chef's knife is currently $100 at Amazon -- a five-fold difference -- the Mundial deserves 4.5 stars for high quality at a very good price.

Nice Knife
My wife is petite and an 8" chef's knife is too big. This 6" knife is perfect for her and she loves it. Her sister tried it and bought one for herself.I was tempted to buy one of those German $100 knives, but after trying this one, I do not see why I should. It feels good, looks good, and is sharp as a razor. What more could you want?

Sharp, moderately heavy. Good for smaller hands.
My dad has a wooden-handled Mundial knife that I always just thought was the best thing ever. However, because of how I cook, I really wanted to avoid a wooden handle. I went for this instead. The steel is not as nice and the feel of a wooden handle just can't be duped. This is also a heavier knife than the wood counterpart, but it's still a very, very good knife. It also comes very sharp. The handle is a good size for smaller hands. I'm happy with this purchase.

Mundial Knives are Real German Steel WITHOUT the Hefty Pricetag!
The company started in 1947 in Brazil...Hmm, My guess is German ex-pats went back to making knives for a living after they escaped to South America. History lesson aside, they are GREAT knives and vrey affordable. Check out the 5100 Series-awesome value.

Great knives at great prices
Mundial makes great knives . . . well constructed and good blade steel. Don't just buy knives because you've heard the name. These are every bit as good as big-name choices and are less expensive. Give them a try.

In my opinion Mundial makes the best kitchen knives on the market for the money. This one is as good or better than ones costing far more. Highly recommended.
