Fits and works great - plug flaps a little stiff
I bought this case because of the integrated screen and body protection. It fits the newest (October 2013) version of the Kindle Fire HD 7" very well. The stand works great although the Kindle is only resting in it so it could be a little precarious if you're not careful especially in the portrait orientation. I haven't had a problem differentiating between the buttons and plugs even though they aren't labeled: the power plug is on the same side as the power button, and the headphone jack is on the same side as the volume buttons (since there are two side by side you can feel the difference from the power button). The directions for taking it apart worked for me (although I have prior experience using an OtterBox for an iPhone), but it was pretty hard to get the silicone outer part off due to the tight fit (which I appreciate now that it's on) with the plastic part of the case. The only drawbacks I've experienced after using it for 3 days are:1) The screen was a little dusty when it arrived (it was only shipped inside a folded piece of cardboard) so I had to clean it first.2) The flap for the headphone jack and the power/data transfer cord are a little stiff and so I'm using a rubber band and electrical tape to bend back the power flap for the first couple of times I charge the Kindle so that the flap does not put pressure on the power cord. I had a problem previously with the usb port of an external hard drive getting loose due to pressure on the cord from a case.

Box said it was for kindle HDX...
I was concerned because we were getting the kindle as a gift from someone else, so they had the kindle and we ordered the case. When it came it said it was for the HDX, which is not what the person had purchased--it was just a regular new kindle fire HD. I called amazon and the guy told me it wouldn't fit this kindle so he overnighted a new one. Opened the box, IT'S THE SAME CASE. Finally met up with the person who had the kindle and it does fit. Sometimes the on/off button takes a try or two, might not be lined up perfectly, but I wanted a case that completely enclosed the kindle as it is for our son. His therapist has an otterbox for her ipad and recommended this one. Honestly, I didn't have many options, and nothing at a reasonable price so I went with this one. I found the kindle under a leaking sippy cup of milk the other day and the case protected the kindle perfectly. Easy to clean, survives drops on the tile and hardwood. It's frustrating that the case is nearly half the cost of the device, but honestly, it has probably saved his kindle at least once already, so it has probably paid for itself.

I like Ballistic Better
I own a Ballistic case for my iPhone and I love it. I checked to see if they were going to make cases for the new Kindles, but I didn't find any. After emailing the company and being told that they would not be making it for the new models, I ordered this one. For starters, Otterbox is at least twice as expensive as Ballistic, so that's a negative.Pros:-Great protection for your Kindle-Integrated screen protection-Stand is integrated as well <---This is my favorite thing about this caseCons:-Kindle seems to heat up a bit using the case-Port covers don't indicate what port it is covering (for example, the Ballistic covers have a picture of headphones for the headset jack and other symbols, making it easy to identify what port is being protected; these cases do not); don't like that I have to uncover them to find the port I need-A little heavy, but that's to be expected from a case like thisOverall I feel this was the next best choice since Ballistic won't be making cases for the new line of Kindle Fires (...maybe in the future they will).

Better service, faster delivery from Amazon than directly from Otterbox...cheaper to!
I got my first tablet for Christmas. The NEW Kindle Fire HD 7". I was ready to jump into some books I've been meaning to buy and play some games I've seen in the app market on my phone...but I like my devices to be protected. Otterbox has secured my last two smartphones and I love their guarantee. An Otterbox for my new tablet was a no-brainer. I couldn't find one on Amazon, so I went to the source. Ordered "Otterbox for new Kindle Fire HDX 7""...after 2 day shipping for $5 extra (took 4 days...that's acceptable according to Otterbox customer service) it cost me $79+. Turns out, they sent me the case for the OLD Kindle Fire 7"...simple mistake, it happens, I'll just swap it out right..WRONG. I couldn't exchange, only return and reorder...taking another week. Oh, and I had to pay $5 return shipping and I wouldn't be refunded the $5 for 2 day shipping. I bit the bullet, didn't have much choice. A week later, I'm still waiting on my refund, but I am typing from my perfectly protected, perfectly fitted New Kindle Fire HD 7"...I'm a prime member and from check out to my door..less than 30 hours. Buy from Amazon.Ps- your cover may come saying Kindle Fire HDX...it's not.

You should buy one.
I had otterbox cases for most of my previous cell phones until I got my lifeproof case for the new 5s. I couldn't find a lifeproof case for my kindle so I figured I would try this otterbox. I am glad I did. This thing seems bulletproof. it fits perfectly and even makes the Kindle nicer to hold. I always felt like I was going to drop it, but now I have the ability to grasp it properly and even if I do drop it, I know ift will be fine since this case offers excellent protection. The "kick stand" is a nice touch too so you can let it rest on the table top if you are watching a movie or reading etc.All in all, I would recommend this to any user that may put their kindle through it's paces. I am a firefighter and this thing goes in my bag when I move from station to station and I have dropped this thing a lot and even squashed it in the back of my car with all my other equipment and it didn't even phase it. A great product.

Perfect for our Fire HD (newer version)
For some reason this came in a box labeled as for the HDX, it wasn't though, the correct item was in the packet. Ideal as our 5yr old uses the HD for netflix, reading & games as she can still plug in her headphones or the charger through the flaps which line up through the case to the ports.Love Otterboxes and great to see them for the Kindle. Looks pretty kid proof too :)

Does what you want
Got this for my Daughters HD Kindle Fire.It fits perfectly. The Kindle is basically entirely covered and even the audio and power ports as covered by rubber protectors. The screen cover is easy to wipe down. It does make the Kindle quite heavy but my daughter loves it. The touch screen still works fine and I am confident that the Kindle is as protected as it can be in the hands of a child.

Excellent
I've have an Otterbox defender on my phone for 2 years and it's still going strong. We got the kindle for our kids (3 and 8 years old) so a good protective cover was a must. Two months on and it looks like new and has protected it from plenty of drops.Expensive for a cover but does it's job.

tough
This is without doubt one of the best cases I have had for any device. Easy to fit and gives good protection. Got it on offer and am pleased with it. Works as a stand too, would recommend

does what it says on the tin...
Arrived in plenty of time, good fit. A bit fiddly to fit, diagram for instructions took a bit of guess work. Two young children and I get the dropsy's every now and then or taking it to work in my bag so wanted something that could withstand this. So far so good. More than happy.
