How do u get battries in it

There are two versions of this flashlight. Unfortunately Stanley has given both of them the exact same Model number. The older 20 lumen version will wok on three AA batteries inserted in any one of the three tripod legs. You can also put three batteries in the other two legs up to a total of 9 AA batteries, three in each of the three legs. The newer version only accepts three AA batteries placed in the center body of the flashlight. I hope this helps answer the question.

How long does the battery operated lasts?

Never ran it long enough to find out. I have had it on for about an hour and it's still bright.
