2015 Toshiba Satellite 14" Full HD Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5-5200U - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive

The laptop arrived with the infamous Toshiba black screen. The internal drive appears to work, but the screen did not power up. A call to the vendor, Bestdeal, was unanswered; they replied by email a day later to contact Toshiba directly. Toshiba's instructions to reset the screen were of no use. The screen is still black. Toshiba will provide us separate instructions to return the unit for servicing.Not impressed with the quality of the unit. I expect a purchase like this to be of quality--the lackadaisical attitude of both the vendor (not my problem) and the manufacturer (oh, well) leave much to be desired. Other electronic purchases I've made have worked have fired up from the start and obtaining assistance from Amazon has been easy and stress free. Not this time.

I'm a little confused by these negative reviews... I purchased this laptop refurbished back in July and I've been quite happy with it thus far. It's nice and compact, the keyboard works perfectly without any loud noises some others have experienced and the backlit option is quite useful. Speed hasn't been an issue at all, everything works smoothly as you'd expect on a new laptop. So far, the battery life has been good too. I mostly use it at home but sometimes if I disconnect the power plug, it's a good while before I'm reminded to plug it in--hasn't been an issue at all. The only thing I've been frustrated about is that I have been unable to connect this laptop using Intel WiDi with my TV. My old laptop did that seamlessly so going from wireless display to having to use an HDMI cable is definitely not the direction I wanted to go in. This laptop does have WiDi capabilities though so I don't know if maybe it's just a compatibility issue. My old laptop was running Windows 7.Pros:- Fast and responsive- Good battery life- Backlit Keyboard- Quiet- Easily (and for free) upgraded to Windows 10 (which is awesome)Cons:- Wireless Display may have limited compatibility- The "pinch-zoom" function on the mouse sometimes gets activated inadvertently- Speakers are adequate but not the best if it's your primary medium for playing music

I have long been a Toshiba laptop purchaser. This will no longer be the case. The construction of this machine is somewhat shabby and I have had a recurrent problem with the HDMI port which was never fixed properly by Toshiba and when the one year warranty was up they told me I now had to pay for further work.

Very nice laptop and battery life does quite well.

Really great machine. Thin and light but affordable with touch screen.
