Good Snake Boot - especially for those with large calves -- but not too large.
After trying many snake boots that could not fit our calves, I bought these particular snake boots for myself and family members because they have a wider leg opening then most and can accommodate people with larger calves. However, some of us could still not use them because the leg openings were not quite large enough. For those who are considering this boot for the same reason, here is some info that may be helpful: Measure the circumference (girth) around the widest part of your calf. If you wear a size 11.5 (US mens) and your calf is more than 19 inches around, this boot will not work. Maximum calf for other sizes we tried of this boot were 18 inches for size 7.5 and 18.5 inches for size 8.5. Whether the shoe size was wide (EE) or medium (D) did not seem to change the size of the upper leg opening.Aside from that aspect, I like these boots a lot. Although a bit expensive, they performed very well. Walking through prickly pear cactus with the large needles was no problem. I had to pull out an occasional spine stuck in the leather but none went through the boot. We also did come across a small rattle snake on the most recent hike (which was to be expected in the area). It did not strike at us, but just having the peace of mind of being protected in case he did strike was worth the price of the boots. As far as comfort and support, I like the pull-on approach much better than laces and/or zippers. Nothing to break and relatively quick on and off. Because it is a slip-on, there is more looseness in the instep, which makes hiking down steep hills less comfortable as your foot can slide forward. But for hiking on relatively flat ground they are very comfortable. No binding in the ankles or rubbing anywhere else uncomfortably. Support was good and they have a solid feel. Traction seemed good. Did not get to test the water resistance yet, but having no laces or zippers should help in that regard. As an aside to any snake boot manufacturers: I personally know a lot of people who would buy snake boots if they could fit their calves in them. This boot and a very expensive model by Danner are the only ones that come close to meeting the needs of anyone with leg sizes larger than average. I know people who resort to leaving the zipper open or relying on the gusset around the tongue to protect them from snakes. There is a huge market being left out! Finally, thanks to Amazon for their flexible exchange and return policy on the ones that did not fit.

Love these boots.
I hate wearing boots. Always have, always will. But as a surveyor I have to have protection and rather than wearing snake chaps I bought these. Light, breathable, and easy to put on. I literally walk miles in a day surveying and these things are comfortable the whole day. Plus I am not concerned when I have to stomp through the underbrush I can't see through.Biggest selling point to me is that it is offered in half sizes and double wide! 11.5 2E is hard to find but fits me perfect.Spray some silicone tent spray on them to make them semi waterproof if you want to. That's what I do to keep the feet dry while walking through wet grass but they are not waterproof. I had rather have boots that breath than waterproof boots that my feet stew in all day. After getting wet thirty minutes later they are dry enough to not notice.

best snake boot and wears like a champ!
Should have a sixth star for outstand in the field . Worn daily for nearly a year. They dig , they hike , they haul , they mud thru winter and cut high grass thru spring , they beath thru two summers now and my favorite they dry fast. Sole show no wear though a seam or two that appeared frayed when I purchased them have actually frayed slightly. The generously sized holes for pulling them on are large enough to use with gloves. Warm in winter cool in summer . Go on most days at dawn and come off at dark. Most of all they give me the confidence to go where no man should go wood pile, rock pile , high grass , woodlot and they breath. You get what you pay for some times. ..six stars for outstanding in a field of vipers in perfect comfort. Oh yeah. Guess I should mention that men and women have commented from time to time how good these boots look. Bought them a half size larger to accommodate Kevlar socks ...go with the half size larger as any tightness would interfere with the mechanic of the breather system , which works BTW like a charm.

Fit For Females
The men's size 7 is a little large for a female who wears a size 8 in a women's boot, but if you like to add full length inserts for additional cushion and support or wear prescription orthotics and also like to wear thicker socks you will be very well pleased with the fit, unless perhaps you have a very narrow foot. I wore these boots the first day for 12 hours straight out of the box with almost all of this time spent on my feet and they are extremely comfortable. They were stiff at first but softened very quickly. I like these boots more than any I have worn. I can think of nothing negative to say about them except that I find them difficult to remove. I would definitely buy them again.

Very well made and confortable
Wow, I was a little hesitant spending this much on this kind of boots but they are great, very solid and comfortable I walked for like three hours in deep mud and thick brush probably ten different times already and perfect, feet stayed dry. It's sort of winter in Florida so there is no snakes yet but I hope I won't have to test that part but I feel so much better now walking around while hunting, specially at night. Driving of course is not easy with these on but I take some shoes to change before and after. Definitely buy long socks to wear them, as soon as I got them I tried them on with short white socks and I got stuck and had to get help to take the boots off.. but with long socks they come off easy.

One Star
Most comfortable boot ever! BUT, stitching fell apart on both boots in less than 20 days.
