Good bike bottles
My wife and I are both using these. We like them particularly for the cap that keeps dirt off the mouth parts. We've used these for a couple of seasons and they are holding up well. We wash them in the dishwasher. Never noticed any plastic taste or odor. The cap hinge and clasp are not hugely rugged. We haven't had any issues, but a hard knock in the wrong place would obviously cause damage. If you want a really rugged bottle, with a cap, try the 750ml Laken Fit. The downsides to the Laken are much higher price, clumsier spout opening and not likely to be dishwasher safe (aluminum), but you would probably have to use a hammer to damage it.Is it BPA free? The Nalgene web site, (as of 7/14/13) says it is. They say the bottle body is made of LDPE. LDPE is not made from and normally does not contain BPA or BPA derived ingredients. Nalgene says the mud cap, the clear part on top, is made of polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is, almost always, made from BPA, and there is evidence small amounts of BPA can leach out of some grades of polycarbonate. The black and white portions of the cap are not identified. To this chemist who has worked with many plastics, the black part seems unlikely to be made from polycarbonate or any other BPA containing plastic. The black part is more likely HDPE or polypropylene. I can't tell about the white part of the cap. It is rigid enough that it could be polycarbonate, but other materials are possible, too.

Fantastic bike water bottle!
One of this water bottle for mountain biking, so I didn't get mud all over the mouthpiece. Such a simple idea with such amazing results. I love this bottle!!!

Great for riding off road; the cover keeps the dirt off the spout.
I've tried using my road water bottles for off-road riding and it's amazing how much dirt ends up on the bottles, and in particular on the spout, even when the bottle is shielded by the down-tube on the bike. I don't enjoy gritty mouthfuls of Cytomax. So after reading some reviews of this bottle I decided to try one for off-road riding. It absolutely works as intended: the spout stays pretty clean, even on very dusty trails covered with fine powdery sand/dust.The cap isn't 100% airtight, so a small amount of dust may infiltrate, but in my experience the spout tends to stay clean-- at least the part where I put my lips-- so I've not had any gritty mouthfuls of Cytomax in a while.Too, the bottle is nalgene, so the bottom portion is squeezable. Finally, the mouth on this bottle is nice and wide, so I don't spill powdered drink mix when filling it, unlike bottles that I have from a different manufacturer. My only complaint: I wish the capacity was 700ml.

Great for dusty rides
I bought these because I got tired of the grit in my teeth after each drink on my local trails. It is dry and dusty here. The cap keeps most of the dust/dirt out but it is not sealed so not all of it. Enough that my teeth no longer feel like I just put sandpaper in there. The bottle and top are good, the plastic cap is a little fragile if you torque it off to the side. I cracked one top after a full bottle drop onto the lid. Just took the cover off and use the bottle on the trainer now. I will buy more when these get retired

Great for the price
I bought 2 of these for the bike trails. I used them today while on a ride and the cover over the mouth piece is a must! My water is nice and fresh, not filled with dirt like my previous bottles. The plastic is soft, so easy to squeeze, but will likely wear out quickly. The plastic top feels flimsy too, but for the price, I'll buy more if they last 10 or more rides. Worth it!

Lid Broke but I Still Like it
I bought 2 of these water bottles for my kids to use for school - 1st grade and 3rd grade. Like others have said, the cap broke off within the first month. After 4 months, my daughter dropped her bottle and the plastic spout shattered and water spilled all over the floor. I am going to replace it with the same bottle for the following reasons: I love the size of this bottle (not too big or too small), the bottle has a nice ergonomic feel when holding it, I like the small opening for kids to drink from, it's easy to clean (no issues with mold) and it never leaked. While this bottle cap needs improvement, I will stick with it for now.

Perfect for Toddlers
I needed a water bottle with an attached cap for my 3 year old when we go to the beach. I hunted around for a long time to find one, but all I could locate were bottles with an "open mouth" design (which would only result in my kid pouring his water all over himself or the ground); all the "sippy" bottles I found didn't have attached caps (so there'd be sand all over the mouthpiece five minutes after we park the car). This bottle though, is perfect. Yes, it's meant for bikes, not toddlers, but my toddler quickly learned to pull the whole mouthpiece up to get the water out, and the design of the mouthpiece means my kid will actually drink his water rather than spill it, the plastic is strong enough to stand up to his attempts to squeeze the water out, and the cap is attached (bonus - when the cap is closed the bottle is sealed and doesn't leak all over the place). If you need a bottle for your toddler or little kid that can travel in your bag without leaking, or for outdoor sports or vacations where dirt or sand will be an issue, this is absolutely the best best out there.
