After Christmas I'll update this review with more details and photos in use. This came well packaged and in good condition with no missing items. You will need some extra items to do some of the experiments. Most of them will be around the house except for the black light. I deducted a star since you need it to do one of the experiments.Extra Items Needed:Clear Plastic Cups, Styrofoam CupsSaltWaterDinner Plate, Larger BowlRulerPaper Towels, Sheets of White Paper, Wax PaperPermanent Marker PencilSunglasses, SunscreenBlack Light

Toy, not a science learning kit.
I was excited to get this based on the reviews but this is more of a toy and less of a science kit. There is no explanation of how these work or why, so no learning really happens. Granted we have only done growing dinosaur one, and the "crystals" one - which isn't even rock crystals, they are like colored jelly that grows. (And dries back down to size without water). More like a parlor trick than a science lab. The growing dinosaur is the exact same thing as the toys you can buy at the dollar store that grow in water. Waste of money, but too late to return. ☹

Fun, but quick and cheap
This was a fun concept, and other chemical type education sets are generally a good educational toy. This however provided little education, and left us with a cheap not-so-impressed feeling. The test tube holder itself is rather flimsy and not useful. The tests themselves are cheap, like gelatin crystals and food coloring, hydrophobic sand, dinosaur sponge you put in water to grow, fake snow mixing, and color dye on beads. My son loved them, but we also went through all of them in about 3 days (trying to drag it out as long as possible). Then the fun was over, the experiments aren't repeatable/reusable, and my son really learned nothing. The instructions were sometimes vague and incorrect, and the short explanation paragraphs didn't really help explain why such reactions occur. My 5 year old son did like it a lot though, mainly because of the idea and simplicity of it, I guess I was just hoping for more.

Science Fun
As a retired science teacher I have found these little experiments in a tube to be quite entertaining for younger children (4 to 9 years old). The only thing I had a problem with was actually getting the materials out of the tubes but that is not a deal breaker for me. The instant snow and the growing dinosaur were the two that the children liked the most. I do like the little tubes that the experiments came in as they can be reused many times, they have screw-on caps, and they do not break when dropped on hard surfaces. They are actually 2-liter soda bottles which have not been heated and inflated to their full size. They could also be used to store spices.

Awesome, awesome, awesome
I first became familiar with Steve Spangler Science when someone gave my son a test tube experiment as a party favor (great idea by the way!). These sets are GREAT for 8-9 year old kids. This has become my new go-yo birthday gift for the 3rd grade crowd. As a parent, I love that there is an educational component to it. I also like that this is the sort of gift that you use 2 or 3 times and doesn't become another plastic toy cluttering up your kids room. Your can totally re-use the test tubes for other projects. I was really happy with the quality of this set, I'll be buying more in the future!

Just right.
My 6 yo grandson has been quite pleased with this.It is a great way to reinforce his natural curiosity. Both his father and his mother have enjoyed using it with him. There is a sheet with directions and explanations of the work.Any additional questions can be answered with a quick search online.

Great kit, fun and easy!
Great science kit! My 8 year old son has really enjoyed this. It gives a little science info with every experiment. We've done 1 experiment each day since Christmas and have really enjoyed each one. The stand is really nice to put the ones that we have done on display. I really appreciate that there is very little that I need to supply with each experiment. I've bought some kits and felt like I needed a list of things but not the case with this one.

Waste of money
Piece of crap don’t waste you money. Experiments were hard to understand and once you pulled them out of the tubes you had to do them right away or things got mixed up. Kids have to have help and some of the experiments got stuck in the tubes. Waste of time and money.
