Great Pump
The pump works great. We lift the bilge water about 5 feet with no problem.

Bought two to replace aluminum bodied corrosion machines
I have a lot of trust in most manufacturers of marine equipment. That said, I do not know what Whale was thinking when they designed their commonly-used aluminum bodied manual bilge pumps with stainless steel fasteners (internal and external). They are corrosion machines! The fasteners quickly gall (it's like welding, but not good). You cannot easily remove the fasteners to repair or replace the parts of the pump that wear. I'm sure there is a maintenance schedule that can help, but who is disassembling a working pump simply to reassemble it because if you don't corrosion will destroy it?I couldn't afford the bronze alternative (maybe the government does, who else?) and I was reluctant to go to plastic. But, I've now installed two of these in my boat and use the primary after every sail and it seems very much up to the task. I would hate to have any manual bilge pump stand between me and drowning, and maybe in the heat of battle these won't hold up, but I think they are probably as stout as the person who will try to pump them, and that's really all that matters. And I feel confident I won't discover the backup corroded and fallen apart just when I really need it.

difficult to access inside
nice and hefty strong item, BUT I am using it as a pump to clear the bottom of a large pond filter (yes, i know not as intended) and after a few minutes a leaf got in and it lost its suction. On a boat, could a fragment of paper make it not pump? So I am trying to open it to clear it, and I have two graduate science degrees and cannot understand how to open it- it says remove the main bolt from the top and the head of the bolt is below surface level without any groove and no room for any purchase at all by any tool- what am I missing? it seems a simple construct.

Bilge Pump Manual
I was shocked and surprised that the package delivered was in serious bad shape. It looks as if it was shipped to someone else and sent back them sent to me at the regular price. When boxes are damaged the product is typically reduced. On another note I am very happy with the new bilge pump that is a replacement for the old one. They are literally the same model and it was an easy install. Even though the box was damaged the product was not.

Not a direct replacement for the gusher 10
I purchased this plastic model to replace the gusher 10 because the metal casing paint bubbles up causing the pump to loose its seal and prime. There are no measurements for the mounting holes but they looked the same in the picture. Only 2 of the 6 hole from the old pump could be used. Also I needed a nitrile unit as oil from the bilge had softened the flapper valve (in the gusher 10) so it pulled through the opening. You can't order a pump with nitrile valves so I had to purchase the nitrile kit and install it. Did not get the valve screwed down tight because of the small screws so it would not pump. Spent a lot of time for a simple replacement.
