Sharp and durable - 10 month update with pics
After watching too many YouTube videos on knives I decided to try Cold steel based on the material, locking mechanism and price. I did make sure that I was ordering the new Carpenter steel version with the upgraded finish. I went with this one as a reasonably priced trial knife. The knife arrived sharp and I soon had a hairless forearm... This being my first "quality" knife I began testing it with typical chores. It easily cuts my phone bill in half and just about any other piece of paper that I throw at it. With a quick snap of the wrist it will cut down the new crepe myrtle growth or roses off the rose bush. It cut my coke can in half and my wife's good housekeeping magazine. I'll be ordering more Cold Steel knives in the future.10 month Update with pics- The knife is taking a beating and hangs in there tough. Super Super impressed with the DLC coating. I've used this knife from making kindling to cutting through plastic plant pots (dirt and all) and that coating only has minor scuffing. The original edge held up great cutting through dozens of amazon boxes. I think I hacked it up a little using my Work Sharp sharpener but it'll still take the hair off my arm no problem. This knife has started an addition with me and I've probably bought a dozen knives since. This one is my favorite and the one I carry everyday for general purpose. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Spyderco Enduro so we'll see if this keeps its gold medal standing.

Best knife I've ever used.
I've carried this daily for a few months now and have to say I am impressed. That's not easy for me to say because this is the first knife in my 30 knife collection that's not made in USA.The coating on the blade is exremely durable, however the clip paint is wearing off. Like others mentioned you need to open/close this a few hundred times for it to work well. It is not an assisted opening blade and requires a little more effort to flick open than others (Kershaw Skyline opens very well). The clip point on the Recon is my absolute favorite style blade. Because it's not Full Flat Grind, FFG, it doesn't slice (apples for example) as well. But the stiff back bone makes this super durable. I haven't batoned wood with it but I know it would do the job if asked.Love the grips. and overall size for EDC in an office environment. It is completely capable without scaring people when it's used. The Mini Recon is my favorite knife

Best edc knife ive found after spend a few hundred on knives over the years.
This is the best edc knife I've come across yet. So thin so light sharp as heck. Easy to sharpen. The improvements cold steel made with the steel and the coatings made a great thing better. This size is defiantly perfect for any edc job without getting you called Rambo for pulling out a full size recon.

Like that.
I am very pleased with the g10 scales and am pleased with the liner lock. It is a hard open at first until it's broken in. Clip is a bit tight and had to be adjusted to mak it easier to clip into pocket. Would recommend for a EDC knife.

I am glad I got it but prob wont be getting another ...
My knife came real stiff and and I had to beat it into submission. I am glad I got it but prob wont be getting another lockback knife again. It kind of gets annoying and after having knives that flip out nice and fast I realize what i am missing now lol

The new Carpenter steel is amazing. Takes a laser sharp edge and holds it ...
Purchased the Mini Recon 1 in November 2016. It hasn't left my pocket since. The new DLC coating is practically bulletproof. The old coating was basically paint (note the photo of the Mini with my original Recon 1). The new Carpenter steel is amazing. Takes a laser sharp edge and holds it forever.

Very happy with this one
Very happy with this one. The lock is very tough to disengage, but it serves a purpose on a hard use knife. If you want something that can take a beating, this is it. It's nice to know you can count on your gear.

Small is Better?
The knife is excellent but it was really small than anticipated. I think you need at least a 3-1/2 inch blade but this actually smaller which is hard to handle in most cases.
