Excellent Mesh System
The AC86U is one of by far Asus's best routers for a reasonable price. The mesh system works flawlessly and works well in the concrete homes of India. Just as a note, I have installed about 25 of these routers in various homes, and I recommend people to pickup this exact model. The main reason is due to the fact that its 2.4G and 5G range is impressive. I've purchased other models such as the AX-88u, which in my opinion does not compare to the AC86U in terms of Range. Not to mention the AC86U is at a bargain price these days. Highly Recommend. Hope it helps.

great coverage with super and stable speed
I am able to get better coverage and fully utilize the 300Mbps ACT connection. Vendor sent a open box initially. Had to return and get the replacement. Setup is bit trickier for pairing the two as it's buggy. Did the same steps few times and got it configured. Once configured no issues noticed. Better to reboot the routers once in a while like monthly or biweekly. Great buy !!

Robust and Fast Router
I have a house near 1800 sqft with concrete walls. After installing the first router, I am happily able to use it for work and other recreational activities. I am even not using the second router right now and preserving it as a backup router when this goes old. It's costly but worth the prize

An excellent Mesh system.
The Asus RT-AC86U Dual Band is an outstanding router by itself, but together with another AC86U router, it forms a powerful Mesh Wifi system that covers my 5000 Sq Feet plus (2500 Sq feet on each floor) home completely. After a lot of research I went for this system and I am extremely happy with its performance and thought that I should write an extensive review for future prospective buyers. I have now been using this for more than a month and so far things have been pretty good. I was earlier using a DLINK DIR-882 router which in itself was quite powerful. I was able to get close to 70% coverage of my home and download speeds of 550 Mbps at close range and around 200 Mbps from a 40 feet distance through brick walls and wooden partitions. However there were areas where there was no coverage or low signals even on the 2.4Ghz band. Moreover I was getting ACTs 1Gbps connection and wanted to make full use of it and my DLINK 882 was having issues with its LAN ports and I wasn’t able to make full of it.Setting it up is very simple if you have experience in using routers. I first set up the primary Router, updated the firmware and then added the secondary router as a Mesh node. The Admin section of Asus is really simple and at the same time exhaustive. There is also an excellent App available to monitor the system from your phone. Once set up there are a plethora of settings that you can play with if you want or leave everything to the Router to do it for you(Auto). My primary router was set up on the first floor at the centre of my house and the node set just below on the ground level. They connect wirelessly and maintain the connection quite well. There is also an option for a wired back haul if you want to do it. Even with out the wired back haul I have seen excellent speeds on the node. The Router has all the features required and I will let you find that out by yourself online. The ones I use regularly are the AI Protection , Bandwidth monitor, and Wireless settings. Using these requires a basic knowledge of Wi FI and if you don’t have experience, best not to tweak them,.Now after setting it all up I tested for coverage and was pleased to get 100% Wifi signal all around. I was getting 5Ghz connections for nearly 85% of the house and remaining 2.4GHz took over. All in all excellent coverage considering that my house is typical Indian construction with thick brick walls, lot of heavy wooden partitions and electronics all over the place. I even have a Sound proof well insulated home theatre system and the Wi FI strength inside is excellent. Speeds, well I’ll let the figures talk for themselves. Testing with a wired LAN connection to my MacBook Pro from the Primary Router I saw speeds of 940 Mbps down and 920 Mbps up on my 1 Gbps connection. So I was getting close to my ISPs quoted speeds.5 Ghz BandPrimary Router Close range about 5 feet - 630 Mbps Down 264 Mbps UpPrimary Router about 40 feet with thick brick wall and cupboards - 420 Mbps Down 358 UpInternet Speed in Home Theatre about 10 Feet away with Thick insulation - 602 Mbps Down 360 Mbps Up.Mesh Node Close Range about 3 feet - 350 Mbps Down 160 Mbps UpMesh Node about 25 feet - 200 Mbps Down 120 Mbps Up.All speeds measured on Ookla Speedtest using a Redmi K20 Pro.As you can see speeds are great all around and if you want the same speeds on the Node go for wired back haul.On the 2.4 Ghz I get around 50 to 90 Mbps speeds from the primary and around 25 to 60 Mbps speeds from the Mesh node. The network supports two wired connections, A NAS and a PS4 and over 20 other devices at any given time which include smart TVS, Laptops, Printer , Mobile phones, Smart Bulbs and a Fire Stick.I have had no issues in 4K streaming anywhere in the house and absolutely no disconnections. The network is rock solid. I use the scheduler to automatically boot the routers at a fixed time. Updates have been regular, so far two, and everything works well. I am hoping that the Asus RT-AC86U Wi Fi Mesh system will give me at least 2 to 3 years of reliable performance. If you want a solid WI Fi 5 Dual Band router with great coverage and superior speeds the Asus RT-AC86U is ideal for you. Asus calls its a gaming router but I highly recommend it for big houses with multiple users and many devices. Its worth it.

Extremely satisfied with this product. AIMesh is solid.
Had been looking for a mesh router for a while and decided to get this. Arrived in a day. Was easy to setup and had it running in 5-10 mins. The Android app and web interface both are solid. I have a 1350 sq feet house and have setup the routers 25 feet apart with line of sight. Have 5Ghz band signal throughout the house now. Was not good with the Archer C7 and extender I had before this. Almost full speed now considering my 300 Mbps Airtel connection in both bands. Extremely satisfied with the product. Those buying it do not forget to update firmware.
