War And Remembrance: The Complete Series [DVD]

A wonderful series encapsulating Herman Wouk's novel. The star studded cast were exemplary, but for me one of the joys of the series were the series of vignette performances from actors who you immediately recognise but cannot put a name to the face. The acting was of a very high standard along with the visual effects, which made the series compulsive viewing.

(As with The Winds of War, I have to take off a star because Robert Mitchum just isn't credible.)However, John Gielgud is wonderful. How does he do it? He doesn't seem to do anything. Perhaps that's the secret - he doesn't "do", he just "is" in whatever role he plays.Again, a very good story. And a wonderfully long one! Those were the days...

I had only managed to see a few of the episodes when this series was originally broadcast. For many years, the DVD was only available in the U S A and so I was more than delighted when a DVD was finally released for Region 2 (UK and Europe). It, together with Winds of War, are by far my favourite mini-series, although I did prefer the original casting of Byron and Natalie in Winds of War.. A first class production, not to be missed.

Read the booos when l was a lad. This series is a fantastic serialisation through henry victor pugs eyes. I challenge you watch the concentration camp scenes and not be moved. I love both series. A must have dvd set!!!

Remember watching this first time around and thought it was pretty good then. Bought the DVD's and still have the same opinion, it is still a very good watch.

Great series, some parts very harrowing so be prepared.

Very good value at sale price

Waited a long time for this to be re-issued, but worth the wait and cost, dvd's arrive safe and on time - completes the story begun in the original series, gets very heavy going but worth the experience
