Not bad at all
This is my first electric guitar in 35 years. The combo has been fun very and very inexpensive. The sound from the guitar and amp is impressive. I will have to tweak a few things with the fit and finish (file the fret edges and install missing screws on the pickup) but overall this will continue to be great fun for the dollars spent for years to come.

Not so good out of the box.
I just purchased this guitar Kit. I have been playing for about 50 years. I have real Gibsons in my collection along with 30 other brands. I collect guitars and like all the guitars I own for some quality that sets it apart from the others.I have bought hundreds of guitars over the years. This is one of the worst quality guitars at any price point as far as workmanship I have ever purchased. Had a dent in the neck behind the 14th fret and several big runs in the white paint. The fret board is rough and still covered in sanding dust. The ends of the fret wires are sharp as razor blades and protrude beyond the board. The tuners are sloppy as well. On the good side it plays and sounds mellow so I spent 20 hours on setup and fret work, fretboard work and it is now quite playable.

Passable guitar and a decent amp
I own one of these in blue burst. Going from head to tail, the stock model had inadequate tuning machines (replaced with Gotoh SG38s), the maple neck is thinner than I prefer, which may cause cramping in others as it does myself, the Indian rosewood fretboard developed pits and fret buzz not long after I got it, the strap buttons came flying out of the body due to the weight of the body (which has a poplar back and maple veneer, creating a pretty decently-balanced sound without being tinny), so I have those anchored with washers for the time being, the so-called "humbucker" that came with it produced about 1 part hum for every 3-4 parts guitar sound (replaced with Duncan SH-6 Distortion), the chrome plating on the compensated wraparound bridge started wearing off after about a year, and the spring inside the jack is defective, so I have to take it out and re-bend it every so often. The GM-05 amp that came with it isn't bad overall, just very sensitive to buzz and RFI. It has okay volume output for a solid-state 5w, a surprisingly wide-ranging distortion control, and good tonal character. Even if I eventually get rid of the guitar, the amp is staying in my collection, as it has a good sound for modern hard rock/metal style and leads. All told, if you need a setup to get you by and can't afford an Epiphone or any of the other Gibson brands, it's not awful, but just don't expect any great cathartic moments from it.

Maestro review
Maestro by Gibson is a good starter guitar. I have played for almost four years now. I got this guitar as just a fun project to upgrade parts etc. if you have played for a while I would not recommend this, unless its like a project. For a beginner it's a great guitar. It has everything you need to start off picks, amp, gig bag, strap, and DVD. The guitar is pretty good even though I would recommend going to a guitar center or some music store close to you to have the guitar set up. Which if your new to guitars means a basic set up on how the strings feels and to make sure the neck is not bent. Also if you would like more out of this guitar change the strings. I have Ernie ball super slinkys and they sound great. Anyway hope this helped

HEAVY guitar - But, when Set Up properly, is a good Guitar
This was my 1st Electric (Bought from BestBuy in a starter Kit).I Set this guitar up myself after reading and watching many how-to's, to get Intonation and action set just right. It played well enough. Still does.I then got an Ibanez. 1st Thing I noticed was the weight difference. Basswood from Ibanez is a lot lighter than the Maple of this guitar. So when I shift back and forth for different tunings, I can tell.I then gave the Maestro to my wife to learn on. And her first complaint was the weight and that it hurt her shoulder after a while. But grins and bears it :)
